Residents of the Kherson region have started to return home after russian troops blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, causing flooding. Here are the rules to follow after the water level drops.

The tragedy in the Kherson region occurred on June 6, when russian troops blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. As a result of the attack, the water level in some areas rose by more than 5 meters. As a result, some houses were completely flooded.

During the rescue operation, SES employees and volunteers evacuated more than 3,700 people and 284 animals from the disaster area. Unfortunately, 21 people were killed, and 28 others were injured as a result of the russian terrorist act.

As of June 20, rescue teams had completed the main evacuation work. It is also noted that the water has begun to recede from the coastal areas, and people are slowly returning to their homes.

However, it is worth noting that the region is still in high danger.

Earlier, we wrote about the rules of evacuation with pets and how to help residents affected by the flood.

What rules should citizens who decide to return home after the floods follow?

The State Emergency Service emphasizes that people should pay attention to suspicious objects that could be brought in by the current. Firstly, we are talking about explosive objects, which were brought ashore in large numbers.

If you notice any suspicious objects, you should dial 101. It is strictly forbidden to approach it or pick it up.

Also, if your house has been flooded, you need to make sure that there is no threat of collapse. Pay attention to whether the glass is broken and whether there are any dangerous fragments.

Remember! Do not use electrical appliances or turn on lights until the house is completely dry. Flooded basements should also be drained.

In addition, the SES emphasizes that you should not eat flooded food, even canned food. All flooded property must be disinfected.

As a reminder, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions still have a ban on swimming in water due to pollution.

When will the power be restored in Kherson Oblast?

Much of the power equipment in the de-occupied Kherson region has survived. Starting in the middle of next week, power engineers will start connecting the Korabel district of Kherson to the grid, and the restoration of power supply in the region is expected in 1-2 months. Gas supply will be restored on June 26.

In addition, the military administration of the region predicts that in the near future, residents of the Kherson neighborhood of Ostrov will receive technical water through the water supply system and, in a few days, drinking water. In the northern part of the region, the situation is more difficult, and the timeframe for restoring the water supply is not yet clear.

It is worth noting that anyone can help residents of the flood-affected areas. Read our article to find out which organizations provide financial and social assistance to the residents of the Kherson region.

As a reminder, the Visit Ukraine team announced an urgent collection to support the affected animals in the Kherson region. So far, we have managed to raise over UAH 120 thousand. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who responded and supported our initiative.

However, the collection continues, as the furry animals still need our support. Your donations will help organizations that urgently address the issue of animal welfare.

Earlier, we wrote that Ukrainian cities, which suffer from russian missile attacks almost every day, are now also trying to survive without water. You can read about what is happening in the settlements affected by the draining of the Kakhovka reservoir here.
