The war does not stop tourists even from distant countries from traveling to Ukraine. Foreigners want to see architectural and cultural sights, feel the unique atmosphere of Ukrainian cities, and enjoy traditional food.

Foreigners, including Indian citizens, can enjoy a visa-free regime for entering Ukraine, but it is not valid for everyone. Here are the rules for such travel and the cases when a visa is required.

It should be noted that in the first half of 2023, more than 5,000 tourists from India visited Ukraine.

Visa-free travel from India

Indian citizens holding diplomatic passports can enter Ukraine on a visa-free basis. According to the rules, such foreigners can stay in the country for 90 days within a 180-day period.

To avoid issues while crossing the state border, foreigners must have:

● Health insurance policy;

● Confirmation of the purpose of the trip, namely hotel reservations, apartment rental contracts, travel vouchers, tickets for seminars, exhibitions, fairs, invitations from companies, etc.;

● Confirmation of sufficient financial support – $45 per person for each day of stay in Ukraine.

When do citizens of India need to obtain a visa to Ukraine?

It is necessary to issue a visa for entering Ukraine if:

● The planned period of stay in Ukraine exceeds 90 days;
● The foreigner does not have a diplomatic passport;

● The foreigner plans to work or study;

● A foreigner plans to obtain a permanent residence permit in Ukraine.

A foreigner can get one of three types of visa:

● Transit visa (type "B") for passage through Ukraine to a third country. The permitted period of stay with this visa should not exceed 5 days.

● Short-term visa (type "C") for a stay in Ukraine for up to 90 days within 180 days.

● Long-term (type "D") visa for further processing by the competent authorities of Ukraine of documents giving the right to stay or stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days.

Consider that Indian citizens can obtain an e-Visa. An e-visa can be issued to civil servants, foreign correspondents, or media representatives for a business or work trip to Ukraine. Such trips should cover the fields of culture, science, education, and sports.

In addition, a digital visa is available for citizens who wish to visit the country for private, tourist, or medical purposes.
