Switzerland to change employment conditions for Ukrainians: what is known

It is noted that the simplification of bureaucratic procedures is intended to increase the number of Ukrainians who will be able to find work in the country.

Currently, 20% of Ukrainians with S status work in Switzerland. One of the obstacles to work for more refugees is the need to obtain a work permit. The local cantonal authorities check employment contracts for the salary specified in them to make sure that it is not underestimated. In most cases, local authorities approve such agreements. In Zurich, for example, 90% of contracts are approved.

Therefore, some politicians consider it appropriate to abolish the work permit procedure for Ukrainians with an S residence permit.

"Ukrainians will only benefit from this, as the need to attend institutions discourages many from actively looking for work. In addition, in such a situation, employers will become more attractive to refugees, and the authorities will need less effort," explained Corina Gredig, a member of the Federal Parliament.

After the permit is canceled, Ukrainians will simply have to notify the authorities of their employment.

The Federal Council intends to double the share of Ukrainian refugees with permanent jobs to 40% by 2024. The authorities also aim to reduce the burden on the social welfare system.

The final decision may be made by the National Council (the upper house of the Swiss parliament) in a few weeks.
