The European Union plans to increase the cost of Schengen visas. This initiative is expected to be a response to the rising inflation rate in the EU. Learn more about the new tariffs
The European Commission has proposed an increase in the basic fee for Schengen visas in 2024, motivated by rising inflation in the EU. If this initiative is adopted, the cost of a visa will increase by 12%, from 80 to 90 euros for adults and from 40 to 45 euros for children. This was reported by the European Commission.
As you know, Schengen visas are required for citizens of non-EU countries who do not benefit from the 90-day visa-free regime between the EU and the Schengen area.
We will talk about the revision of the cost and price increase further in the article.
The EU plans to increase the cost of visas: details
It is noted that the EU also plans to further increase the fee for countries that do not cooperate in readmission issues. For such countries, the cost will increase from 120 to 135 euros and from 160 to 180 euros, respectively.
The Commission emphasizes that the proposed price increase is due to the rising inflation rate in the EU.

In addition, the EU has announced plans to introduce a digital Schengen visa, which will be issued only through digital technologies. This will allow travelers to apply online regardless of the country they plan to visit.
The digital version will replace the current system of stickers in passports. The digital platform is expected to be implemented by 2028.
It is emphasized that if the EU adopts the changes, they will come into force 20 days after their publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
We remind you! The European Union has hosted more than 4 million Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine.
