Border guards have increased their presence in tourist areas of Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions due to additional restrictive measures introduced due to martial law. These measures were introduced by the regional commandants on the basis of orders providing for a special control regime. Ihor Zarudnev, Assistant Head of the Chernivtsi Border Guard Detachment, commented to Ukrayinska Pravda on the strengthening of security and control measures in the western regions of the country.

Additional patrols and document checks: what's going on?

Since June, local media have reported active document checks by border guards at the Vorokhta, Tatariv, and Voronenka railway stations in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. These checks are being conducted because some offenders are trying to illegally cross the border disguised as tourists.

As explained by Ihor Zarudnev, these measures are based on the order of the commandant of Ivano-Frankivsk region and the city of Ivano-Frankivsk of April 2024. This order is temporary, but the exact terms of its validity have not yet been determined.

Thus, border guards, together with representatives of territorial recruitment and social support centers (TSC and SP) and police officers, patrol railway stations, checking citizens' documents. It is noted that in order to pass such a check, men must have a military registration document with them, as the data from the Reserve+ application is not an official military registration document for the SBGSU.

Zarudnev also reminded about the special regime introduced by the government in December 2023, which requires mandatory permission from the SBGS to stay in the border strip 5 kilometers wide from the state border line. Border guards are actively informing citizens about the need to obtain a permit to enter, stay and work in this zone. Since June, border guards have started levying fines for violating this regime.

We remind you! This summer, tourists and locals will have to obtain special passes from the Border Guard Service to visit certain areas of the Shatsk Lakes in Volyn Oblast.
