According to the Opendatabot service, since the beginning of 2024, a record number of road accidents have occurred in the country compared to the same periods in previous years. The reasons for the most frequent road accidents on Ukrainian roads are described below.
Road accidents in Ukraine: statistics
It is worth noting that the number of road accidents with victims in 2024 in four months (from January to April) exceeded the figures for the previous three years. Thus, as of April 2024, there were 6,475 road accidents on Ukrainian roads that resulted in people being injured. It should be noted that in 2023, for the period from January to April, there were 6,094 such accidents, in 2022 - 4,028, and in 2021 - 5,988.
Regions with the highest number of road accidents with victims in 2024 (from January to April)
● Dnipro region - 637 cases;
● Lviv region - 586 cases;
● Kyiv - 534 cases;
● Kyiv region - 490 cases;
● Odesa region - 465 cases;
● Kharkiv region - 386 cases;
● Mykolaiv region - 309 cases.

The most common causes of road accidents in Ukraine in 2024
The most common causes of road traffic accidents were as follows:
● Exceeding the safe speed limit - 38.8%;
● Violation of manoeuvring rules - 22.2%;
● Violation of the rules for crossing intersections - 8.1%;
● Violation of the rules on pedestrian crossings - 7.7%;
● Failure to maintain the distance - 5.1%;
● Driving under the influence of alcohol - 3.9%;
● Road traffic accidents caused by pedestrians - 2.9%;
● Speeding - 2.6%;
● Driving on the wrong side of the road - 1.8%;
● Other causes - 6.9%.
