Renting a house in Scotland: where Ukrainians can find apartments and what programs will help them
Refugees from Ukraine who have taken refuge in Scotland have the right to rent housing. Certain programs are available in the country. Find out more about how to rent private housing in Scotland and what the cost is
Scotland has a super-sponsorship program that allows Ukrainian refugees to find and rent housing. How to do this and what you need to know about the program is described below.
According to the Ukrainian community in Glasgow (the capital of Scotland), the cruise ship MS Ambition will no longer be used as a welcome accommodation for Ukrainians. The ship will stop accepting refugees from March 31 this year.
What options are offered instead?
One of the best options offered by the authorities is to settle refugees with a "sponsor". These are Scottish families who have expressed their willingness to provide accommodation in their homes for Ukrainians or to rent out their homes.
Ukrainians can also rent private housing in Scotland. In some regions of the countries, finding private housing for rent can be more difficult due to high demand. In most cases, private housing is cheaper to rent outside of large cities. By the way, in small towns it is easier to find places in schools and kindergartens.
In addition, Ukrainians can stay in the home of a volunteer host who acts as a "sponsor". Usually, such people provide accommodation for six months, but some decide to do so for a longer period.
Volunteer hosts live in different cities and towns in Scotland. In regional communities, people are more likely to have extra rooms.
