Scotland has a super-sponsorship program that allows Ukrainian refugees to find and rent housing. How to do this and what you need to know about the program is described below.

According to the Ukrainian community in Glasgow (the capital of Scotland), the cruise ship MS Ambition will no longer be used as a welcome accommodation for Ukrainians. The ship will stop accepting refugees from March 31 this year.

What options are offered instead?

One of the best options offered by the authorities is to settle refugees with a "sponsor". These are Scottish families who have expressed their willingness to provide accommodation in their homes for Ukrainians or to rent out their homes.

Ukrainians can also rent private housing in Scotland. In some regions of the countries, finding private housing for rent can be more difficult due to high demand. In most cases, private housing is cheaper to rent outside of large cities. By the way, in small towns it is easier to find places in schools and kindergartens.

In addition, Ukrainians can stay in the home of a volunteer host who acts as a "sponsor". Usually, such people provide accommodation for six months, but some decide to do so for a longer period.

Volunteer hosts live in different cities and towns in Scotland. In regional communities, people are more likely to have extra rooms.

How to rent private housing in Scotland?

If you think that renting on your own is more suitable for you, then you will find it useful to contact Shelter Scotland, Citizens Advice Scotland or an estate agent. They can:

 show you where to look for accommodation;

 inform you about the options available in your preferred area

 help you with the payment of a deposit (deposit);

 help you deal with issues related to the payment of rent/contract;

 help with the payment of municipal tax;

 provide assistance with guarantees for rented private housing.

Housing prices in different cities of Scotland

The cost of renting a house in Scotland depends on the city where the property is located and the size of the apartment/house. For example, in the Lothian region (including the capital city of Edinburgh), renting a one-bedroom apartment will cost £807 per month. Renting a four-bedroom apartment there will cost about 2044 pounds sterling per month. At the same time, a shared room with one bedroom will cost about £493.

Ayrshire is one of the regions where it is the cheapest to rent a house. There, prices range from 405 pounds (for a one-bedroom) or 903 pounds (for a 4-room).
