The introduction of account maintenance fees is not new in the Polish banking sector. However, it is worth noting that some financial institutions in Poland have already made statements in recent months about the planned increase in such fees.

We will tell you what changes Polish bank customers should expect and how it may affect their financial transactions.

Credit Agricole

From September 2023, Credit Agricole customers will face an increase in the cost of services. The monthly fee for using the account and card will increase from PLN 9 to PLN 10. In addition, the fee for cash withdrawals from non-Credit Agricole ATMs will also increase to PLN 9.

mBank

Starting from August 19, mBank customers also felt the changes related to cash withdrawals. Since then, for transactions of less than PLN 100, customers have to pay PLN 2.5 for each transaction. However, withdrawals of larger amounts of money are automatically exempt from the fee.

For those who do not plan to pay the fee at all for withdrawing cash any number of times, there is a subscription to free money withdrawals from mBank. However, the price for this service has also increased, namely by PLN 2. From now on, the subscription will cost PLN 7.

PKO Bank Polski

Since June of this year, PKO Bank Polski customers have also faced an increase in tariffs.

One of the biggest changes was the increased fee for cash withdrawals from non-bank ATMs. Now customers will pay PLN 10 for each transaction of this type.

In addition, the cost of the cashback service, which allows you to withdraw money in stores, has increased to PLN 2 per transaction.

Santander

Starting from October 2023, Santander customers will pay PLN 6 per month for account maintenance and PLN 9 per month for using a Santander card.

ING Bank Śląski

Starting August 29, ING Bank Śląski will increase the fee for cash withdrawals from other ATMs from PLN 5 to PLN 10.

In addition, the fee for the Blik service, which allows for cashless payments, will also increase to PLN 5 instead of the previous PLN 2.5.

What are the reasons for the changes in bank fees?

One of the key aspects of this situation is the analysis of specific tariffs that different banks plan to introduce.

It is important to note that banks are trying to explain this step from the perspective of the need to maintain high-quality banking services and infrastructure. They point out that the changes in service fees are related to rising costs for technical support, cybersecurity, and improving services for customer convenience.

In general, the increase in account maintenance fees in Polish banks reflects the complex changes in the banking industry and the growing demands on the quality of financial services. It also gives customers an opportunity to consider their financial habits and reconsider their choice of bank in light of the new realities.
