Ukraine has at least 60 lighthouses, the oldest of which were built in the first half of the 19th century. Lighthouses glow in three different shades of white, and sometimes two colors at the same time. This allows you to take great photos and get an unforgettable experience. Lighthouses work in all weather conditions, which is why they are still needed in the modern high-tech world.

We are going to tell you about the most interesting ones that are worth visiting and seeing with your own eyes.

Ajigol lighthouse

The lighthouse's vertical open metal structure is 64 meters high, making it the tallest lighthouse in Ukraine! It is located on a small artificial island in the southeastern part of the Dnipro Estuary.

The Adzhyhol Lighthouse has a unique hyperboloid structure and an unusual appearance with transparent red holes. The lighthouse is named after Lake Adzhyhol, which is located near the village of Rybalche.

The lighthouse was built in 1911 by engineer Vladimir Shukhov. Today, the lighthouse is equipped with solar panels that supply it with energy.

Dzharylgach lighthouse

Dzharylgach Island is the largest uninhabited island in Ukraine. Its pearl is the lighthouse of the same name with an openwork design reminiscent of the "handwriting" of engineer Gustave Eiffel. However, it was designed by his student and completed in 1902.

The lighthouse is 24 meters high, and the metal frame was made in Paris. In 2009, the Dzharylgach National Nature Park was established on the island.

Vorontsov lighthouse

The lighthouse is located in the Black Sea port of Odesa and guides all ships passing through the harbor. It was the first stationary lighthouse built on a wooden breakwater and installed in 1845 on the initiative of the fleet commander, Admiral Mikhail Lazarev.

In 1863, it was converted to cast iron, and in 1867, electric lighting was installed, and it became the world's fourth electric lighthouse.  The Vorontsov Lighthouse is 26 meters high and has 135 steps, its light can be seen at a distance of up to 32 km, and its sound can be heard at a distance of up to 3 km.

The lighthouse works for four days without recharging and automatically switches to a spare bulb if it suddenly burns out.

Rear Khablov lighthouse

Mykolaiv region has an unusual lighthouse that has gained popularity due to its location. It is located 10 kilometers from the coast, in a field where instead of a stormy sea there is a sea of wheat.

It is built on the highest point in the region, 58 meters above sea level. The lights can be seen from a distance of about 40 km.

Together with the Khablovsky lighthouse in front and in the center, it forms a straight line that sailors follow. Thus, the navigation system at the mouth of the Dnipro-Bug estuary is designed so that ships can safely enter the fairway of the Southern Bug.

Tendrivskyi lighthouse

The lighthouse on Tendrivska Spit was built in 1827 and has not changed since then. The round 30-meter lighthouse tower can be seen in the distance. The main function of the lighthouse is to prevent ships from running aground on their way from the Bosphorus to Odesa.

The lighthouse was built on a protected island of the same name and has been closed to tourists for some time.

Genichesk lighthouse

The Henichesk Lighthouse is a two-story building with a lighthouse tower and is located at the mouth of the Utliutskyi Estuary in the Sea of Azov.

The lighthouse was built by a group of highly skilled French specialists over five years in the second half of the 19th century.  Due to the war between Russia and Turkey, it began to shine much later than planned.

In 1977, an additional white flashing light was installed on the lighthouse, and in 1990, a radio beacon was installed.

Lower Berdiansk lighthouse

The Lower Berdiansk Lighthouse is located on the coast of the Sea of Azov and marks the way to the port of Berdiansk. It is an octagonal white tower with an orange and white stripe in the center, 23 meters high.  Its construction began on April 22, 1838, and it became operational on September 3.

The light source at that time was paraffin lamps, which were replaced by electric lamps in 1883. Later, the lighthouse was also equipped with a sound signal in case of poor visibility.

Biryuchyi Lighthouse

Biryuchyi Lighthouse is located on the island of the same name, which is protected as part of the Azov-Sivash National Nature Park.

The lighthouse was designed in 1878 and put into operation in 1882. Initially, the lighthouse was 24.7 meters high and shone for 13 km. During the Second World War, the lighthouse was blown up and later completely rebuilt. Now it is 30 meters high and shines for 28 kilometers.

Sivers Foremost Lighthouse

The lighthouse is located on Cape Siversa on the Southern Bug River and was built in 1866. Initially, there was only a wooden tower with a lighthouse, but 20 years later a tetrahedral stone tower was built on the site of the lighthouse.

The modern lighthouse that tourists see today was built in 1967.
