Historical moments and facts about the partisan movement in Ukraine
An active Ukrainian partisan movement appeared on the territory of the country during World War II, when Ukraine was divided between Nazi Germany and the troops of the Soviet Union.
At that time, partisan struggle appeared in a number of regions of Ukraine.
One of the most famous partisan movements was the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). The UPA fought for the independence of Ukraine and fought against both the Nazis and the Soviets.
The partisans committed daring acts of sabotage, attacked military installations, and conducted reconnaissance. Their actions helped weaken the occupiers and maintained morale among the population.
During World War II, about 200,000 partisans operated behind Nazi lines in Ukrainian territories
Modern partisans
After the end of World War II, Soviet troops carried out mop-ups and liquidation of Ukrainian partisans. However, dozens of years later, partisan units reappeared on the territory of Ukraine.
After the beginning of the war in Donbass, Ukrainian citizens again began to conduct active sabotage activities in the rear of enemy troops. And since 2022, when russian troops invaded Ukraine, guerrilla movements only began to grow.
At the moment Ukrainian partisans are present in almost all occupied territories. They destroy the enemy from within, as well as help the Armed Forces of Ukraine with reconnaissance and adjusting strikes.
