The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Status of War Veterans, Guarantees of Their Social Protection", which amends the legislation on the status of war veterans and their social protection. This is stated on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

The document simplifies the procedure for granting persons the status of a combatant, a person with a disability as a result of war, a family member of a deceased defender or defender of Ukraine" (draft law No. 9141).

Government simplifies procedure for obtaining combatant status: details

From now on, to obtain the status of a combatant, it is enough to submit a certificate of direct participation in the defense of Ukraine. This certificate must contain information about documents confirming the person's participation in the relevant events, and it is the basis for granting the combatant status.

The new format of the certificate of direct participation in the defense of Ukraine, which, in addition to basic information, also includes

- position

- date of birth

- document details,

- registration number of the taxpayer's account card

- the address of the declared or registered place of residence (stay), contact phone number and e-mail address may also be indicated.

If desired, copies of other documents confirming the fact of performing combat missions may be attached.

According to Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, the certificate should contain information on documents confirming the person's participation in relevant events, and it will be the basis for granting combatant status.

"This step will greatly help to get rid of unnecessary bureaucracy and speed up the procedure for recognizing the contribution to the defense of Ukraine and granting them the status of combatants," the Defense Minister emphasized.

The amendments also concern the procedure for obtaining combatant status in case of injury, such as wounding, contusion or mutilation.

From now on, a certificate of the circumstances of the injury will be issued to the serviceman upon the fact of his injury, instead of submitting materials of special investigations to the interagency commission.
