Toll roads in Slovakia: where are they located, how much does a vignette cost and how to pay?
To drive on Slovak toll roads, every driver is required to have an electronic vignette. Find out all about the conditions for driving through commercial areas and other requirements for drivers of cars with foreign registration
Slovakia, like every EU country, has its own peculiarities of traffic rules and road system, which apply not only to local citizens but also to drivers of cars with foreign registration. For the convenience of travelers, we will tell you all about the rules of driving on toll roads in Slovakia and the nuances of paying for the vignette further in the article.
Where are the toll roads in Slovakia?
In general, the location of toll roads in Slovakia allows drivers to save money, because almost every place can be reached without leaving the commercial highway, while spending a little more time on a detour. Toll roads are marked with a road sign that says "s úhradou".
Toll roads are marked in yellow on the map below.
However, it should be borne in mind that an attempt to drive on a toll road without paying will result in a fine. In this case, the amount that the driver will have to pay is much higher than the cost of the toll itself. For example, depending on the type of violation and the category of vehicle, fines range from €140 to €700.
How to pay for toll roads in Slovakia?
To travel on toll roads, drivers are required to purchase an electronic vignette. You can buy it online:
– via a special website;
– via the Eznamka mobile application.
In addition, you can buy a vignette at points of sale marked with the "eznámka" logo, at border checkpoints and at some gas stations.
Unlike in other countries, in Slovakia you do not need to stick the vignette on the windshield of your car, as all the necessary information is stored electronically. However, keep in mind that trucks require a readable identifier - GO-Box.

Price of a vignette in Slovakia in 2024
A separate system is used for trucks and buses, which provides for additional emissions for kilometers traveled. You can find it on the official website.
For cars, everything is much simpler: the cost of a vignette depends on its validity period. For example, the fare for cars up to 3.5 tons:
▶︎ for 10 days - €12
▶︎ for 30 days - €17
▶︎ for 1 year - €60
Please note! For vehicles with a trailer weighing more than 3.5 tons, an additional trailer vignette is required. That is, the driver must purchase two separate vignettes - one for the car and one for the trailer. Motorcycles do not have to pay for traveling on commercial roads.
It is worth remembering that Slovakia is included in the list of member countries of the international Green Card system, so every driver of a car with foreign registration is obliged to have a Green Card insurance policy for the entire period of stay in Slovakia. You can purchase insurance for the required period on the Visit Ukraine website at this link. Read more about what such insurance covers and how it works here.
