Caring for wounded veterans is a difficult mission that usually falls on the shoulders of their loved ones. Constantly staying in hospitals, rehabilitation centers or at home with a wounded loved one is exhausting. In addition to the physical and psychological support that needs to be provided to the wounded soldier, his family has to deal with a lot of bureaucratic issues, and often continue to work, perform household duties and raise children.

We will tell you where and what kind of help relatives and friends who care for wounded veterans can get, with reference to the post of the Human Rights Center for Military and Their Families "Pryncyp" on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

What to do if your loved one is injured?

Civilians who have just learned about the injury of a loved one are advised by the Center to first visit the Pravovyy navihator website or the Telegram chatbot. It contains all the necessary information about the wounded person's path from evacuation to disability registration. So here you can find answers to all your questions:

– how to get a certificate of injury

– how to apply for financial assistance;

– where to get sample applications and reports, etc.

Psychological assistance

Veterans and their family members can receive psychological assistance through several channels:

1. The Veteran Hub national support line: +38 (067) 348 2868. Also on the official website of the Veteran Hub there is a list of "Plus Plus" spaces where psychologists provide offline consultations.

2. Crisis support hotline of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund for veterans and their families: 0 800 33 20 29.

3. Free psychological assistance for children and their parents from the Voices of Children Foundation is available in 15 cities and through a support line: 0 800 210 106.

4. Mobile application for psychological support for veterans "Base": here you will find self-help exercises, materials on mental health, and useful contacts.

Legal assistance

For legal assistance, relatives of wounded veterans can contact:

1. The hotline of the Legal Hundred NGO at 0 800 308 100.

2.  Call the hotline of the Ministry of Defense 15-12.

3. To the Coalition of Veteran Spaces "Thank you for your service! Ready to Help!" through a special chatbot (on this platform, you can order one of the available services - social support, legal or psychological consultation).

Medical support, care, prosthetics 

Practical recommendations on medical support and care for female and male veterans can be found on the INgenius website, and videos on the INgenius YouTube channel.

Also, relatives of wounded soldiers can take training courses for caregivers. They are organized by regional departments of social protection. You can find out whether such events are held in a particular region by calling the regional department. The necessary contacts are available on the website of the Ministry of Social Policy.

In addition, government programs are available to veterans' families: Home Care and Personal Assistant. A social worker in each region can be found on the website of the Ministry of Social Policy at this link.

To receive a prosthesis or other auxiliary aids, you need to apply through the ASC or the social protection department in your region. Comprehensive information on prosthetics can be found on the following websites: Pravovyy navihator and Protez Hub.

Payments for soldiers after injury and their loved ones

As explained by the NGO Pryncyp, a person who cares for the wounded and does not do so professionally can expect to receive payments. In particular, such payments are possible if:

– the veteran has a disability group I or is unable to move independently;

– the caregiver and the wounded live together and are connected by a common household.

Also, a veteran who has been disabled as a result of a combat injury can receive a pension.
