In Hungary, Ukrainians will be able to obtain a residence permit even with an expired passport

The Hungarian authorities have introduced temporary rules that allow Ukrainians to obtain a residence permit in the country even with an expired passport. This is evidenced by the relevant government decree.
Hungary will issue residence permits to Ukrainians with expired passports
It is emphasized that during the state of emergency in Hungary, identity documents issued abroad are recognized as valid.
Thus, when applying for a temporary residence permit, an expired Ukrainian passport is considered valid.

A temporary residence permit may be issued even within six months after the end of the state of emergency in Hungary.
However, this provision does not apply to the procedure for obtaining Hungarian citizenship.
It is known that in May 2022, the Hungarian government declared a state of emergency due to the situation in Ukraine. The last time it was introduced was in April this year.
