What is the 40+ program and why was it canceled?

The "40+" program was introduced from the first days of the war to help Ukrainian refugees find asylum in Poland. It provided compensation of 40 zlotys per day (about 400 UAH) for accommodation and meals for refugees. Until July 1, 2024, this program was valid for up to 120 days from the date of the first entry of refugees into Poland, and longer for vulnerable categories.

The Ministry of the Interior and Administration of Poland explained that the program's cancellation was due to the need to support domestic social programs and investments in economic development. It was stated that the number of applicants for compensation has decreased, and there are now free places in collective centers.

Where can Ukrainian refugees find free accommodation in Poland?

Collective centers

Local authorities, in particular voivodeship governments, will now be responsible for placing refugees in collective centers. Accommodation in these centers will be free for the first 120 days. Vulnerable categories will be able to stay free of charge in the future, while other refugees will have to pay up to 60 zlotys per day (approximately 600 UAH).

Official government resources

The Polish government has created several portals to help Ukrainians. One of them is Pomagam Ukrainie, which publishes offers of temporary housing, contact information of local administrations and other useful information.

Charitable organizations

Various charitable organizations and foundations continue to help Ukrainians find free housing. Their support is an important resource for many refugees in difficult situations.

Social networks

Free housing offers can be found on social media, such as Facebook. Groups such as "Mam mieszkanie, dom, pokój dla Ukrainy", "Pomoc dla Ukrainy" and "PODAJĘ DŁOŃ UKRAINIE" actively post ads for affordable housing.

Small hotels and guesthouses

A lot of accommodation options are offered by small hotels or boarding houses that receive support from international organizations. In such establishments, accommodation is not limited to 120 days and does not depend on the 40+ program.

We remind you! From the beginning of July, Ukrainians living in Poland will be able to apply for three important types of support. Each of them has its own characteristics and conditions that you should know in order to receive funds.
