To be employed in Poland based on an education obtained in Ukraine, it is necessary to confirm the diploma. There are 2 ways to do this: obtain a special certificate or undergo a nostrification procedure.

In our previous article, we reported that Poland has introduced several changes for refugees from Ukraine, some of which relate to children and school education.

Certificate of diploma recognition in Poland

Ukrainian diplomas issued before June 19, 2006 do not need to be nostrified, just recognition is enough. You can find out whether you need to undergo the nostrification procedure on the website of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).

To do this, you need to specify the country of higher education and the year of graduation. This will provide access to full information in Polish and English. The generated certificate can be printed.

Earlier, we told you that Ukrainians living in Poland will be able to apply for three important types of support from the beginning of July.

Features of the nostrification procedure

The nostrification procedure in Poland is carried out at higher education institutions where the applicant submits documents in person. The chosen university must have an academic category A+, A, or B+ in the relevant discipline. Information about the category can be found on the university's website.

The submitted documents must be translated into Polish. Usually, an ordinary translation is sufficient, but some universities may require a sworn translation, which should be checked directly with the institution. Diplomas and other educational documents may be submitted as copies.

In Poland, there is no single list of universities for nostrification, so you need to look for a suitable university on your own. It is important to make sure that the university has a specialty that you studied in Ukraine. The nostrification process involves a comparison of educational programs, so you should familiarize yourself with the curricula of a Polish university in advance, which are usually available on the institution's website.

The nostrification procedure takes up to 90 days, during which the Polish university compares your educational program with the one implemented at their institution.

Required documents

After the final choice of an educational institution, you need to prepare a package of necessary documents. It depends on the requirements of a particular university. Most likely, you will be asked to provide the following documents:

1. An application for diploma nostrification indicating the specialty obtained;

2. Birth certificate and its notarized translation into Polish;

3. Diploma of higher education with an appendix and its notarized translation into Polish;

4. Certificate of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) on the possibility of recognizing a higher education diploma in Poland;

5. Documents for the evaluation of the curriculum and the duration of the study with a translation into Polish;

6. If necessary, documents to confirm the name or surname with translation into Polish.

After the university has checked the documents, they should send a letter with the details for payment of the fee. Make sure that the application contains the correct address and mailbox number. The payment must be made within 14 days, otherwise the application will not be processed.

Payment for nostrification and waiting period

To cover the costs of diploma recognition, you need to contact the District Labor Office. First, you need to create an electronic account on the website praca.gov.pl.

Contact the Labor Office immediately after receiving a letter from the university about the payment. The letter should be scanned or photocopied to create an electronic copy. You can get help in preparing an application for nostrification funding at the Employment Service. After the application is approved, the Employment Service will make a payment directly to the university, covering all necessary expenses.

Usually, the nostrification procedure can take up to 90 days from the date of application, but the waiting period may be extended due to queues.

After completing a detailed check of the curriculum, and comparing subjects and academic hours, you will be provided with one of the following decisions:

1. Refusal to recognize the diploma;

2. Recognition of a diploma with a lower degree;

3. Requirement to take additional courses for diploma recognition;

4. Recognition of a diploma without any requirements.
