Every driver can experience a situation where the car battery dies at the most unexpected moment. However, there are several ways to open the car, even if the battery is dead. We'll tell you how to open the car in this case in this article.

How to open a car if the battery is dead: top ways

● Find the key and use it. Many modern cars have a mechanical key hidden inside the key fob. Find it and try to open the door in the traditional way.
● Try opening the trunk, as sometimes this process requires less energy. If you successfully open the boot, try to get into the cabin through it.
● Recharge the battery from another car. If there is another car nearby, ask the driver to "light up" the battery. However, please note that in this situation, the terminals must be connected correctly to avoid damage.
● Recharge the battery with a portable battery charger. If you have this device, connect it to the battery and allow some time for it to reach a charging level that allows you to open the door.
● As a last resort, you can try to open the car mechanically. For example, bend the upper part of the door and slide a thin object into the cabin to press the lock release button from the inside. However, keep in mind that this method can damage the paintwork and seals.

To avoid such situations, you should heed the following tips:

● always carry a mechanical key with you, even if you own a modern car with keyless entry;

● check the battery regularly;
● keep a portable charger in the trunk, as it may come in handy in unforeseen situations.

If you are not sure that you can open the car on your own without causing damage, it is better to contact professionals and call the appropriate services or a tow truck.

By the way, one of the Mini Casco insurance packages provides coverage for tow truck services. Read more about tariffs and terms and conditions here.

Also, every driver in Ukraine should remember that it is mandatory for all vehicles in Ukraine to take out an MTPL insurance policy. A valid motor third-party liability insurance policy (MTPL) is a guarantee of compensation for damages in the event of an accident. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can buy a motor third party liability insurance policy from a licensed insurer. Packages with a deductible of UAH 3200, UAH 1600 and UAH 0 are available.

Remember. A car battery is vulnerable not only during periods of frost, but also in the summer heat. Find out how to protect your battery from high temperatures and other tips for summer care here.
