Switzerland deports Ukrainian refugees for the first time since the war: details
Several Ukrainians have been expelled from Switzerland for the first time since the start of the full-scale war. Find out why the authorities took this step
For the first time since the start of the full-scale war, Switzerland has deported Ukrainian refugees. We will tell you what caused this reaction of the Swiss authorities.
What was the reason for the deportation?
According to NZZ, on 30 October, three Ukrainians who had committed crimes in Switzerland were deported from Zurich on a special flight. This is the first time since February 2022 that Switzerland has returned Ukrainians to their homeland for criminal offences.
The Ukrainians were taken to Poland, from where they will be transported to Ukraine.
The Swiss State Secretariat for Migration does not provide detailed information about the crimes committed by Ukrainians due to data protection and confidentiality.
The publication notes that petty crimes cannot be the reason for deportation. Those deported must be accused of serious crimes, such as robbery, imprisonment or bodily harm. But there are other reasons as well.

Why can I be deported from Switzerland?
Here are the main offences and actions that can lead to deportation:
- Violation of the visa regime. This is one of the most common reasons for deportation. If a citizen of Ukraine or another country exceeds the time limits set by a visa or temporary protection status, this is an offence.
- Working without a proper permit. Switzerland has strict rules regarding the employment of foreigners. Temporary protection allows Ukrainians to work, but violation of work conditions, such as illegal employment, can lead to deportation.
- Fraud in social assistance. Any attempts to illegally obtain social assistance or other types of financial aid are also a serious offence that can lead to deportation.
- Significant violation of public order. Switzerland pays special attention to public safety. If a person poses a threat to security or is involved in a public order offence, they may be deported.
What should I do if I am threatened with deportation?
If you are threatened with deportation, we recommend that you take the following steps:
