The government has introduced a new mechanism for registering cars received by the military as humanitarian aid. According to the Ministry of Social Policy, from now on, defenders can legally register such vehicles for themselves and use them until the end of martial law plus three months after its lifting.

What documents are required to register a volunteer car for a military?

To register a vehicle for temporary state registration, a serviceman must submit the following package of documents to the service center within 10 days of signing the acceptance certificate

● an application of the established form;

● an identity document

● a document on military service;

● vehicle transfer and acceptance certificate;

● a printed electronic declaration.

Important: after completing the registration, the serviceman must notify his military unit or subdivision of the receipt and registration of the vehicle recognized as humanitarian aid.

How to register a previously received vehicle?

Servicemen and women who received vehicles as humanitarian aid before the resolution came into force have the right to register them at service centers within the next three months. In this case, a similar set of documents is required, and the acceptance certificate can be in any form.

For vehicles transferred to the military before December 2023, the registration procedure will be established additionally.

Simplified re-registration system: new opportunities

An important innovation has been introduced to facilitate the subsequent re-registration of a vehicle: up to 5 military personnel may be named in the transfer and acceptance certificate, who will be entitled to drive the vehicle and re-register it in their names. This information is entered in the “Special notes” section of the registration certificate.

When temporary registration of a vehicle is terminated

Temporary registration of a vehicle may be terminated in the following cases:

● Destruction of the vehicle

● death of a serviceman

● suspension of military service

● recognition of a serviceman as missing in action;

● being a prisoner of war;

● being treated for more than one month (in particular, due to injury, contusion, trauma or mutilation);

● being wanted because of unauthorized abandonment of the unit or desertion;

● discharge from military service;

● refusal of transportation in favor of another serviceman.

How can I renew my temporary registration?

If temporary registration is terminated due to the above circumstances, it can be renewed at the request of one of the servicemen or women specified in the acceptance certificate. If such persons are not specified, the service center shall notify the unit where the serviceman served about the need for departmental registration of the vehicle.
