Local pharmacies offer a wide range of medicines, but their names, dosage forms and dosage may differ from their usual Ukrainian counterparts. Here's how to find the medicines you need and how to navigate Moldovan pharmacies to get quality analogues of common Ukrainian medicines.

The category of over-the-counter medicines in Moldova includes

- painkillers and antipyretics;

Can I buy antibiotics without a prescription in Moldova?

In Moldova, the sale of antibiotics without a prescription is prohibited. Pharmacists are not allowed to dispense these drugs without a doctor's prescription. This restriction is aimed at preventing the abuse of antibiotics and the development of bacterial resistance to them. To get an antibiotic, you need to see a doctor who will assess your condition and, if necessary, write a prescription.

How do I get a prescription for medicine in Moldova?

In Moldova, to obtain a prescription for medicines, you need to see a doctor who will write a prescription after an examination.

Since 1 April 2024, the country has introduced an electronic prescription system, which simplifies the process of obtaining and using prescribed medicines.

Ukrainians residing in Moldova are entitled to free emergency medical care. To receive routine medical care and prescriptions for medicines, it is recommended to register with a family doctor at your place of residence.

However, for reliable 24/7 protection, we recommend taking out health insurance from Visit Ukraine, which has a wide coverage and guarantees high-quality care in case of need.
