The beginning of the new year is traditionally rich in innovations. This also applies to temporary residence permits in Poland. The minimum wage in the country has increased, which has an impact on foreigners.

On January 1, the minimum wage threshold for obtaining a residence card based on employment was raised to PLN 4,666 gross.

Visit Ukraine's lawyers explained how to maintain the status of temporary protection in Poland while planning a long trip to another country.

New Minimum Wage Rates in Poland in 2025

On September 12, 2024, the Polish government met to decide on increasing the minimum wage. According to this resolution, starting from January 1, 2025, it will amount to PLN 4666 gross. The minimum hourly rate will be PLN 30.50 gross.

It is important to note that the salary cannot be lower than the established minimum threshold. This is not affected by the type of employment contract. However, it is possible to sum up the income of a person under several contracts.

How have the requirements for obtaining a residence card in Poland changed in 2025?

In order to obtain a residence card on the basis of employment, the income specified in the employment contract must be at least the minimum gross income. This rule does not apply to a resident card, a permanent residence card or a family reunification card.

As of January 1, the minimum wage for obtaining a residence card based on employment cannot be lower than PLN 4666 gross. If your income did not meet this requirement last year, you should immediately update your documents in the office.

If your salary does not meet the established conditions, you will be denied a residence permit. This does not depend on the length of working hours during the month.

For persons applying for a residence card on other grounds, the minimum income must be PLN 1,010 net.

When applying for family reunification, the income must be at least PLN 823 per month per person in the family. For example, if a family of two parents and two minor children has only one adult working, he or she must earn at least PLN 3,292 net. Only under this condition will the children and the spouse be able to obtain a residence card.
