Odesa, like other cities in Ukraine, has been fully affected by russia's full-scale armed aggression that began in 2022. The city, which is located on the Black Sea coast, is regularly attacked by russian missiles and drones. However, the city's residents continue to enjoy their lives, no matter what. In this article, we will tell you how Odesa lives during the war and what steps the authorities can take to return it to its resort status.

As you know, at the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Odesa was one of the main targets of the occupiers. The enemy army planned to conduct an amphibious operation to capture the city, but thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian military, russia's plans did not come true.

At the same time, the russians continue to injure the peaceful city by shelling it with missiles and kamikaze drones.

How is Odesa living now?

Shelling, sea mines and an increased level of danger. All these facts do not prevent residents of the resort city of Odesa from enjoying the beauty of their city and rejoicing in the arrival of summer.

After the outbreak of the war, many citizens decided to leave the city, fearing its surroundings. However, after 15 months of russia's full-scale aggression in Ukraine, the likelihood of fighting around Odesa has dropped to almost zero, as the Ukrainian military has done a good job of protecting the south of the country from occupation.

Now, the population of Odesa is approaching pre-war levels, which means that the city is reviving its former self. In terms of daily life, restaurants, parks and shopping centers continue to operate in the city, despite the fact that Odesa experienced one of the most powerful blackouts last year when the russian army targeted Ukraine's critical infrastructure with missiles.

Is a beach season possible in Odesa?

As we recall, to protect the city from the sea, the military reinforced the coastline with mines to protect it from enemy landings. In this regard, in the summer of 2022, the Odesa authorities banned recreation on the beaches and swimming in the sea. However, after more than 15 months of war, the situation with recreation in the resort city of Odesa may change.

According to the Odesa District Military Administration, the city may reopen some beaches on the Black Sea coast after a special inspection.

The military and political leadership of the city has already issued an order to take measures to prepare for partial access to the Black Sea coast in Odesa under martial law.

It is worth noting that this order defines a set of measures that will allow Ukrainians to access certain beach areas for recreation with the possibility of swimming in the sea.

What beaches can be opened in Odesa?

According to the authorities, the city may open areas within the coastline - from Lanzheron Beach to the 16th station of the Big Fountain.

At the same time, the administration notes that the aforementioned order does not concern the opening of beaches, but the conditions under which they can be opened.

The document specifies what should be done on the relevant sections of the beach areas. After the specially created commission checks whether the conditions of the order are met, it must submit the relevant acts by June 5.

The final decision on whether to open the beaches will be made by the head of the Odesa Military District and the Odesa Joint Strategic Military Group after the inspection.

However, vacationers should remember that even if the beaches are reopened, the danger of russian shelling does not disappear. Also, do not forget that the danger from mines can persist for a long time, as storms can cause naval shells to wash up on the shore.
