Labour market in EU countries: what specialists are most needed
According to a report by the European Labour Office, 400 different professions have been recognised as shortages in at least one EU or Schengen country. At the same time, 321 professions were found to be redundant in at least one of these countries.
There are a number of professions and industries that are truly in short supply in many European countries. Because of the inability to attract such a large number of local residents, countries have to attract foreign nationals for employment.
Many countries have already reformed their labour migration policies to make it easier for foreigners to find work. The German government, for example, has simplified the conditions for obtaining a work visa and developed a special employment strategy aimed at young people from other countries.
In its latest report for 2022, the European Labour Office identified a sample of the most in-demand professions in the European Union. Some of these professions were found to be in short supply in as many as 16 European countries.
Therefore, foreign nationals who have received education or have valuable experience in these professions have an increased chance of obtaining a work visa to Europe.
