Georgian authorities have extended the period of visa-free stay for Ukrainians on their territory to two years. Find out more when the new rules come into force
The Government of Georgia has extended the period of visa-free stay in the country for Ukrainian citizens to two years.
By a resolution dated February 24, the relevant amendments were made to the resolution number 255 "On Approval of the List of Countries Whose Citizens Can Enter Georgia Without a Visa" dated June 5, 2015.
New changes for Ukrainians in Georgia: details
According to the amendment, citizens of Ukraine are allowed to enter Georgia without a visa and stay in the country for a full 2 years.
Previously, this was possible for a year, after which it was necessary to cross the border again and enter Georgia.
How many Ukrainian citizens are currently in Georgia?
According to the UN, at least 25,000 Ukrainian citizens have been staying in Georgia as refugees since the beginning of the war.
According to a report by the Center for Social Justice, only 20% of Ukrainian refugees are employed in Georgia. Another 58% would like to work, but there is no special state program in this area. At the same time, 69% have higher education and 84% have work experience.
The most serious problem refugees face is housing due to rising rent prices.
35% of Ukrainian refugees in Georgia do not have money for basic needs, 19% do not have regular access to food, 16% do not have access to clothing and footwear, and 14% do not have access to medical services.
Currently, the Center for Social Justice has called on the Georgian government to develop a unified and coordinated action plan to support Ukrainian refugees, in particular, to create a single information portal that will allow them to receive comprehensive information in a language they understand.
We will remind you! The Government of Georgia, with the support of UNICEF, provides Ukrainians with the opportunity to receive one-time financial assistance. Read about the deadline for applying for funds here.
