The past week has been quite difficult for most of Ukraine, with frequent alerts, massive rocket attacks on certain regions of the country, and daily drone attacks. Although the performance of Ukrainian air defense systems and the number of enemy air targets shot down is encouraging, this period has been quite stressful for most of Ukraine's population.

Massive russian attacks: how Kyiv has suffered

The aggressor is trying to prove its greatness on the eve of the landmark May 9th holiday for russia, so it has once again aimed to terrorize the civilian population of Ukraine.

On the night of 7-8 May, the terrorist army carried out the most massive attack on the capital for the entire period of the war. In total, about 60 UAVs were launched across Ukraine that night, 36 of which were shot down over Kyiv. No enemy "arrivals" were recorded in the region, but a multistory building was damaged when one of the "Shaheds" fell. Five people were injured. Debris also hit eight cars, windows and facades. One of the capital's schools was heavily damaged.

Should we leave Kyiv? Kyiv's residents' reaction to the shelling

The unpleasant nights made some Kyiv residents think about leaving the city again. Small queues have formed at petrol stations, and the number of people loading things into car boots has also become more noticeable. However, this trend has not become widespread. No abnormal traffic jams were recorded on the outskirts of the city that day.

Military leadership's response to frequent massive enemy attacks on the capital

Ukraine's military leadership claims that Kyiv, unfortunately, is a landmark city for the enemy, so there is no hope for a reduction in the intensity of attacks on the capital, especially in the coming days.

However, despite the constant shelling, Kyiv lives and believes in the Air Defense Forces and our defenders.

As a reminder, the capital is coming to life more and more every day. Many people have returned to the city. As of the beginning of May, 3.6 million people live in Kyiv. The population is almost equal to pre-war levels. In 2021, the capital's population was 3.9 million. Read more about how the capital of Ukraine lives during the war in our article.
