Ukraine is rich in natural wonders, UNESCO World Heritage sites, a storied history and delicious cuisine. The interest in Ukraine is growing every day, which means that the number of tourists wishing to visit the country is increasing. Read here why tourists travel to Ukraine and what are the most visited sights.

Currently, most travelers planning a trip to Ukraine are interested in whether it is safe to travel in the country and how much such a vacation costs - read the detailed answers to these questions here.

We also recommend that you note that as of July 1, all covid restrictions and quarantine measures have been lifted in Ukraine, which has eased the rules for crossing the Ukrainian border.

Today, we invite you to learn more about the natural wonders of Ukraine, in particular, about the most beautiful canyons that fascinate with their picturesque landscapes and majesty.

There are almost two dozen canyons in Ukraine. Their beauty literally takes your breath away, and the height and space make you feel like flying. These canyons have an interesting history, incredible views, and should definitely be on every traveler's list.

Teterivsky Canyon and Denyshi rock massif

This 5 km long gorge, located next to Korostyshiv Canyon, is one of the five most beautiful natural gorges in Ukraine. It was formed in granite rocks by the Teteriv River.

The canyon is relatively narrow and resembles a Norwegian fjord with its gorges, rapids, waterfalls, and wooded slopes protected by 300-500-year-old giant oaks.

The hollow is so beautiful that it is included in the Ukrainian Nature Reserve Fund. Climbers love this valley and come from all over Ukraine.

Denyshi is one of the most popular climbing spots in Ukraine. Competitions are held here and there are routes for both experienced climbers and beginners.

Bohuslav granite outcrop

This natural monument is located in the Boguslavsky Landscape Park, along the Ros River in the Kyiv region. The granite outcrop is about 2 billion years old, the canyon is about 1.5 km long and the rocks are 10-12 meters high.

This is a great place to relax with picturesque views and a great place for swimming, which the locals call "Yama", where the rocks of the gorge are washed by the river on both sides.

Smotrytsky Canyon

The Smotrytskyi Canyon is a geological landmark located in Kamianets-Podilskyi, along the Smotrych River, which surrounds the old town. The cliffs of the canyon are 50 meters high and were once a natural fortress for the defense of the city.

Hundreds of millions of years ago, the Silurian Sea was here, and the remains of its "inhabitants" still stand in the rocks.

The famous Kamianets-Podilskyi was born here. The medieval city grew up on a peninsula near a sharp bend in the Smotryv River, and a majestic fortress stands opposite it.

The canyon has a waterfall, a bridge, and a stone wall for horseback riding. All of this is surrounded by 360 species of plants, including those listed in the Red Book - Hungarian cockerels, sleeping grass, anemone, and mountain ash.

Butsky Canyon

Known as "Little Switzerland," this intricate rocky coastline with 30-meter-high outcrops is formed of 2-billion-year-old Proterozoic gray granite.

The cliffs stretch along the river for about 2.5 km. Nearby is the Vyr waterfall and the ruins of a structure made of huge granite blocks, which is compared to Stonehenge.

The gorge was declared a natural monument of national importance in 1975. The Rodionova Rock, one of the most famous rocks in the gorge, is a popular destination for rock climbers. Kayaking is also popular here.

Korostyshiv Canyon

The cliff of this artificial canyon, known as the Granite Quarry, is 18 meters high. Previously, the stone quarried here was used to build the Lenin Mausoleum in Moscow, the stairs and platforms in front of the Verkhovna Rada, and the courtyard of the Mariinsky Palace.

Later, the granite quarries were abandoned, and later the underground springs were deliberately pumped with water to create a picturesque corner of "man-made nature." One of the most popular quarries is the First Lake, which was formed from the springs of the Teteriv River.

Located just 100 km from Kyiv, this lake is popular with both locals and visitors to the capital.

Dniester Canyon

This is the largest and perhaps the most beautiful canyon in Ukraine. Formed by the Dniester River, it borders four regions - Khmelnytsky, Chernivtsi, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk - and is 250 km long.

The canyon was formed due to the special structure of the relief and natural phenomena associated with wind and water erosion.

The Dniester Canyon

In fact, natural formations have a whole history: 200-year-old oak trees, the world's largest Silurian rocks, the remains of the first vertebrates, springs and waterfalls, and a unique "subtropical" microclimate.

The "walls" of the valley reach a height of 120 meters, and on the slopes there are numerous historical buildings, including the medieval Chervonohrad Fortress, the Yuvanets Fortress, the Rakovets Fortress, and the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

A cave shrouded in legends is hidden in the forested cliffs above the Dniester. Since pagan times, it has been used as a place of worship, and in the Christian era, as a refuge for ascetic monks. Not far from these caves, there are waterfalls, such as the "Tears of the Virgin Mary," that flow down the rocks.

There are numerous archaeological sites along the banks of the Dniester, including the ruins of castles, churches, monasteries, and lordly residences.

Due to its interesting landscapes and natural wonders, the Dniester Gorge is a popular destination for rafting tours.
