Kyiv has become the safest city in Ukraine thanks to Western air defense systems. Indeed, the capital is in full swing, with many changes and updates taking place every day that affect the lives of citizens and foreign visitors in one way or another. Read on to learn about the most important events in Kyiv over the past week.
The Great Lavra Bell Tower was opened to tourists for the first time in 30 years
After a successful reconstruction, the bell tower of the Kyiv Cave Monastery is open to visitors again. While the third tier of the bell tower has been accessible since October, the top (fourth tier) has been closed for reconstruction for more than 10 years, and tourists have not been allowed here at all for the past 30 years.
It should be noted that the Lavra bell tower is the tallest church building in the capital of Ukraine. Its height is 96.5 meters.
Kyiv approves a targeted program for the treatment of animals for 2024-2025
The Kyiv City Council has approved the City Target Program for Animal Treatment for the next two years, which will create a safe urban space. The new program provides for the regulation of the number of stray animals through sterilization, as well as enhanced control over the keeping of pets.
In addition, the program will include
- stray animals will be vaccinated and provided with emergency assistance;
- special areas for walking and training pets will be created;
- new equipment for catching and transporting animals will be purchased, and organizations that run animal shelters will be funded;
- a number of awareness-raising events will be held.
The first "Berlin airbag" was installed in Kyiv: where exactly?
For the safety of pedestrians, the first "Berlin airbag" in the capital, which will slow down traffic, was installed on the left bank of Kyiv near the Darnytsia metro station on Bazhova Street.
"The purpose of such an artificial bump is to reduce the speed of passenger vehicles," the Center for Traffic Management notes.

However, this obstacle is designed to slow down only passenger vehicles, as special equipment and buses have a wider wheelbase, and therefore will be able to pass without stopping, allowing a "cushion" between the wheels.
At the same time, the Centralized Traffic Control Center notes that after the test period of the Berlin cushion, similar speed bumps may be installed on other streets of Kyiv.

Kyiv region wants to create a company to recycle waste from destroyed buildings
According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, a waste management company will be set up in the Kyiv region as part of the Pilot Project for the management of waste from the destruction caused by hostilities.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency will become a partner in the project, which will train employees abroad, provide the equipment necessary for processing and reuse, and ensure quality control.
The JIA also reported that after the project is implemented in the Kyiv region, the practice is planned to be spread throughout Ukraine.
A set of anti-epidemic measures against the hepatitis A virus is being implemented in Kyiv region
From November 1 to November 20, 5 cases of hepatitis A virus were confirmed in the Kyiv region. However, according to the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health, these are isolated cases and two of them come from the same family.
At the same time, in order to prevent the epidemic that occurred in Vinnytsia region, experts are working to prevent the spread of the viral disease.
"At present, the CDC specialists are carrying out a set of anti-epidemic measures with the collection of samples from contact persons and environmental objects for laboratory testing, as well as final disinfection measures," the statement said.
