Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, Ukrainian cities are trying to prepare for the New Year holidays. For example, Kyiv region has already started selling Christmas trees and announced the opening of several winter attractions that can be visited both alone and with children.


So, where to go for the New Year's mood and where to buy a Christmas tree in the capital - we will tell you further in the article.


Where to buy a Christmas tree in Kyiv and the region and how much does it cost now?


According to representatives of the Capital Forestry Office, Christmas tree sales in the Kyiv region will start on December 1. Almost 18,000 trees have already been prepared for the sale, and citizens will be able to take them home.


What kind of trees are available and what is the price?


According to the representative office, all the trees were grown on special Christmas plantations and carefully cared for by foresters, which is why they have a thick and lush crown. There are both pine and fir trees from 0.5 to 3 meters high, as well as potted tree seedlings. The price of trees in 2023 will vary from 70 to 350 hryvnias, depending on the size.

Please note! Forestries in the Kyiv region urge citizens to buy Christmas trees officially.


"By purchasing a tree officially, you pay taxes that form the budget of your community and the entire country," the offices urge.


Each official tree must have a special identification tag with a unique digital number that allows you to check the legality of the tree's origin. You can check it on the website of the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine.

Where to go with children: addresses of St. Nicholas residences in Kyiv and the region


St. Nicholas residences in Kyiv region will open on December 1-6. How to visit St. Nicholas?


The main residence of St. Nicholas in Kyiv


Opening hours: from November 11 to December 26, from 10:00 to 18:00, seven days a week.

Residence of St. Nicholas in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra


Opening hours: December 1, the residence will be open every Saturday and Sunday, as well as on December 6, 19 and 25 from 11:00 to 16:00.

Please note! On the first day (December 1, 14:00), visitors will be received by invitation only. Group visits are possible by prior arrangement (from Wednesday to Friday).


The Great Lavra Bell Tower, where the residence will be located, will be interesting not only for children but also for adults. The monastery will also host an exhibition of works of art.

Skating rinks in Kyiv: Artzavod Platforma, VDNH, Osokorky 


Unlimited skating rink at Artzavod Platforma


On December 1, a skating rink will open at the Platforma Art Factory near the Lisova metro station in Kyiv. Skating will be unlimited, and a ticket will cost 300 hryvnias per day, including skate rental. Children under 4 will be able to skate for free. Discounts are available for military personnel, pensioners, and people with disabilities.

The organizers said that a food court will also be open at the location.

Opening hours: from Monday to Thursday - from 10:00 to 21:00, from Friday to Sunday - from 10:00 to 22:00.


Winterland skating rink at VDNKh


"Winterland will open on December 9. Here, Kyiv residents and visitors will find not only a skating rink but also an exhibition of ice sculptures, various unusual installations and expositions, a festive Christmas tree, as well as carousels and a fair.

Opening hours: daily from March 9 to 17. The animation program is scheduled for weekends and holidays (performance dates: 9.12-10.12, 16.12-7.01, 13.01-14.01, 20.01-21.01, 27.01-28.01).


An open-air skating rink in Osokorki


"The Crystal Skating Rink with an area of 1600 square meters on the embankment near the River Mall in Osokorky will start operating on December 9. The location will also feature carousels and food courts with food and drinks. Entrance to the territory is free, skating will be unlimited, and the ticket price for the rink is UAH 370. Discounts are available for military personnel and their families.

Opening hours: daily, from December 9 to January 28 - on weekends and holidays, the rink will be open from 10:00 to 22:00, on weekdays - from 12:00 to 22:00.
