Ukraine consults with the US and EU on airspace opening: what is known?
The Ukrainian government is submitting applications to European and American safety regulators to confirm its plan to reopen the airspace. Find out what steps are being taken to resume flights and when it will be possible
Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov said that Ukraine is applying to European and American safety regulators to confirm the plan to open the airspace. He said this on the forum "Ukraine. Year 2024" form.
What is known about the plan to open the airspace over Ukraine?
Recently, it became known that the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, Eurocontrol, believes that the resumption of flights in Ukraine will be possible only in 2029. However, as Oleksandr Kubrakov noted on the forum, Ukraine is already consulting with American and European airspace safety regulators to confirm the plan to open Ukrainian airspace.
"It's a complicated process, but Ukraine is taking the first formal steps now, and these weeks we are submitting official risk assessment statements to the relevant regulators," he said.
However, he did not specify a timeframe for the possible resumption of flights, emphasizing that the issue of ensuring safety is a matter of extreme complexity.
"It is important for us that the American and European regulators confirm our algorithm of actions," the minister added.

Boryspil Airport: what is known about flight preparations?
In the fall of 2023, Boryspil Airport CEO Oleksii Dubrevskyi said that they were preparing to resume operations in the post-war period. According to the CEO, the airport will be able to receive and depart flights a month after the end of the war.
"We don't want to spend a year or two thinking: "What are we going to do after the war?". We are taking the necessary measures to resume flights as soon as possible," he said.
You can see what Boryspil Airport looks like now, after two years of war, here.
At the same time, in December 2023, dozens of vacancies for ground staff at Boryspil Airport appeared on the Work and Recovery website and on specialized HR services. The ads were looking for not only aircraft technicians, aircraft lead engineers, radar and navigation engineers, and dispatchers, but also aircraft commanders, stewards, and even aircraft washers.
Therefore, it is possible that civilian flights will be resumed before the war in Ukraine ends.
