U.S. President Joe Biden has signed bills that provide for the allocation of aid to U.S. allies, including Ukraine. According to the document, more than $60 billion is earmarked for military aid to Kyiv. Here's how the money will be allocated and when Ukraine can expect to receive American weapons.

The signing of the document was announced during a briefing by the US president.

"Today is a good day for world peace. I have just signed a law regarding aid. It will make America and the world safer. It will help our partners defend their sovereign land," the US president announced.

What will the money be used for?

In total, the bill introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson provides for $60.8 billion in aid to Ukraine and regional partners to counter russia.

About $50 billion will be spent on defence spending for Ukraine, including:

- $23.2 billion - replenishment of defence goods and services provided to Ukraine

- $11.3 billion for ongoing US operations in the region;

- $13.8 billion for the purchase of modern defence systems, defence goods and services;

- $1.6 billion in foreign military financing (FMF) to meet the needs of Ukraine and other regional partners.

The document also includes other expenditures, including those for Ukraine's economic needs.

US military aid to Ukraine: when will the first deliveries be made?

After signing the bill on assistance to Ukraine, Biden announced a new arms package. It is worth $1bn, as previously suggested by the US media.

As the US president himself noted, the new US aid will be delivered to Ukraine in a matter of hours.

"In the next few hours, in just a few hours, we will begin sending air defence equipment, ammunition for artillery and missile systems, and armoured vehicles to Ukraine," the US president said.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon said that the first aid package in a long time would include air defence ammunition, HIMARS MLRS, cluster munitions, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and more.

As for the ATACMS long-range missiles, the Pentagon's website does not indicate that they are on the list. However, as Western media have already reported, these missiles may be transferred to Ukraine without an official announcement.

Earlier, CNN noted that during briefings in Congress in recent weeks, administration officials said that the United States would likely send Ukraine long-range ATACMS for the first time as part of a new aid package.

It should be noted that the last time the Americans provided such a large aid package to Ukraine was last year.

How will this affect the frontline?

Earlier, the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, warned that the coming months would be difficult for Ukraine. He suggested that Ukraine might experience some problems from mid-May.

At the same time, the US Institute for the Study of War believes that moscow may reconsider its intentions for a full-scale operation to begin in June. After all, when it was planned, military assistance from the United States was still "hanging in the balance". However, the US has now announced new military support for Ukraine.
