On the night of 29 April, Polish protesters unblocked all checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. As a result, all checkpoints are operating as usual, but some restrictions remain. Here's what you need to know before travelling across the Ukrainian-Polish border.

Poland and Ukraine have reached an agreement

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, negotiations between the governments and associations of the two countries will continue. The parties agreed to exchange monthly figures on the transit of agricultural products to monitor the situation.

The next meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of Ukraine and Poland is scheduled for 7 May to discuss the terms of cooperation in the summer.

What restrictions will remain in place?

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reports that, according to available information, trucks transporting grain crops will not be allowed to enter Poland through the Rava-Ruska checkpoint. Such cargoes can only move through Poland in transit mode.

Currently, there is no accumulation of trucks on the neighbouring country's side, and trucks leaving Ukraine are moving through the eCheck.

As you know, since the beginning of the year, the Poles have launched large-scale protests on the border with Ukraine and blocked almost all checkpoints for freight transport and restricted entry for ordinary citizens. In February alone, the NBU estimates that import losses amounted to USD 350-400 million. At that time, purchases of food products (fish, fruits/nuts), industrial products (clothing, footwear), and timber fell the most.

Safety when travelling abroad

Please note that when crossing the border by car, many countries require a Green Card insurance policy, which will protect you from unforeseen expenses in the event of an emergency on the road.

At the same time, it is worth knowing that at the border with Poland, representatives of the host country's border guard service require drivers to provide a paper insurance policy. That is, the document must be physically present with you.

By the way, you can apply for a Green Card at favourable prices, as well as with various services, on the Visit Ukraine website. To get acquainted with the policy packages, go here. It will take a few minutes to complete the application.

We remind you! Having an insurance policy is a mandatory requirement for travelling to most countries of the world. You can find out how much such insurance costs in 2024 and what coverage it has here.
