Entry to Ireland without a valid biometric passport is no longer possible for Ukrainians: new conditions
In addition to reducing benefits and length of stay, Ireland has also changed its entry rules for Ukrainians. Find out how these innovations will affect the travel and temporary protection of Ukrainians in Ireland
On June 5, 2024, Ireland introduced new entry rules for Ukrainian citizens. From now on, entry to the country will be allowed only with a valid biometric passport. This decision was made by the Department of Justice of Ireland in order to move from emergency measures to a more sustainable immigration policy.
New rules of entry to Ireland for Ukrainians
After the russian invasion of Ukraine began, Ireland, like many other EU countries, allowed Ukrainians to enter with expired biometric passports or internal passports. These temporary measures were necessary to respond quickly to the crisis. However, now that the situation has stabilized, Ireland is returning to standard immigration requirements.
Therefore, starting from June 5, Ukrainians without a valid biometric passport will not be able to enter Ireland. This applies to all Ukrainian citizens, including those who are already in the country for temporary protection. Only a valid biometric passport is now required for entry.
The Irish Department of Justice emphasized that most Ukrainians arriving in the country already have valid biometric passports. Therefore, the new rules will not create significant problems for most Ukrainian citizens. The visa-free regime for Ukrainians remains in force, but now a valid biometric passport is required to cross the border.

What will change for beneficiaries of temporary protection
Beneficiaries of temporary protection in Ireland will be able to stay in the country without a valid biometric passport. However, they will need such a passport for re-entry if they plan to travel outside of Ireland. This innovation will not deprive them of protection, but it will make certain changes to their travel plans.
Ireland's new entry requirements for Ukrainians are a logical step towards strengthening the country's immigration policy. This decision is primarily aimed at maintaining stability and security. Ukrainians planning to visit Ireland should ensure that they have a valid biometric passport in advance to avoid problems at the border.
We remind you! Refugees from Ukraine who are in Ireland or planning to come to the country should be prepared for changes. In particular, the local authorities are preparing to close assistance centers and reduce payments. Read more about the updates in this article.
