New rules and payment amounts for Ukrainians in Ireland
On July 24, the Irish government approved changes to the support program for Ukrainian refugees. From now on, for those who live in state-provided full-board accommodation, the weekly allowance will be reduced from 232 euros to 38.80 euros. Payments for children will amount to 29.80 euros per week. These changes will affect approximately 19,000 Ukrainians who arrived in Ireland after the outbreak of the war and are not working.

Reasons for the benefit cuts
Earlier, the Irish government had already introduced similar cuts for refugees who arrived after March 14, 2024, provided they were provided with full board. In May, a decision was made to equalize payments for all Ukrainian refugees who enjoy free accommodation from the state. Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris emphasized the need for a consistent approach to supporting refugees, regardless of their date of arrival.
In addition, according to the new rules, starting from March 14 this year, newly arrived refugees will be provided with state-funded accommodation only for 90 days. After that, Ukrainians must look for separate housing.

The accommodation centers that are subject to the reduction have been identified
The list of special accommodation centers will include about 200 places where Ukrainians receive accommodation, food, laundry and other services. These changes will take effect in September, and refugees will receive the first reduced payments on September 12. Notifications about the reduction of payments will begin to arrive in August.
We remind you! In addition to reducing payments and length of stay, Ireland has also changed the entry rules for Ukrainians. Read how these innovations will affect the travel and temporary protection of Ukrainians in Ireland in our previous article.
