Kyiv is a city of over a million people, nestled in the mountains above the Dnipro River. It can take several hours to get from north to south or east to west, using the metro, minibuses and rented bicycles. In 2024, changes were made to the operation of the Kyiv metro due to scheduled repairs at some stations, and since 2022, there have been restrictions on the operation of ground stations during air raids for security reasons. Read the article to find out how to get around Kyiv quickly and conveniently.

General information about the Kyiv metro

The Kyiv metro has three branches, which are identified by colour (each branch has a specific list of stations):

- red: from Akademmistechko to Lisova

- green: from Chervonyi Khutor to Syrets

- blue: from Heroiv Dnipra to Teremky.

Themap of the Kyiv metro can be found here.

Kyiv subway schedule

The Kyiv Metro is open from 5:30 to 22:30. Please note that train intervals become longer closer to closing time. In general, the intervals are as follows:

- 2-4 minutes - during rush hour;

- 5-7 minutes - during the working day;

- 6-11 minutes - on weekends.

Which Kyiv metro stations have recently been reopened?

Recently, repairs on the Blue Line were completed and the Lybidska - Teremky section was opened to users. In 2024, due to an accident in the tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska, traffic on this part of the blue line was suspended. In September, it resumed along the entire line.

We recently told you that on 12 September, the blue line of the Kyiv metro will be fully operational. Read more about the event here.

How does the Kyiv metro operate during air raid alerts?

During the air alert, only underground metro stations operate, and trains run on the following routes

- Red line - from Akademmistechko to Arsenalna;

- Green line - from Syrets to Vydubychi and from Osokorky to Chervonyi Khutor.

At each station, you can get drinking water, use the restroom, charge your gadget, connect to the Internet or relax (in case of prolonged anxiety or anxiety at night, the metro serves as a shelter).

However, when planning your day, you should take into account possible transfer problems and know alternative ways to get from one bank to the other.

How to get from one bank of Kyiv to the other during the air raid?

Shuttle buses in Kyiv

You can use minibuses to get around Kyiv during air traffic alerts, but practice shows that the intervals between them can be quite long.

If you do decide to use a minibus, follow this route:

1) catch bus 535 - from Osokorky to Rusanivska embankment;

2) find minibuses going to Pechersk;

3) from Pechersk, head to Darnytska Square;

4) from there, there are many routes to the right bank.

Kyiv city train

There is a regular Kyiv City Electric train service that starts at 5:30 and ends at 23:00. On the left bank, the train departs from Darnytsia railway station.

Interval of service:

- every 30 minutes during rush hour;

- every hour - at other times.

The ticket price is 15 UAH.

Payment can be made in the following ways:

- via the Kyiv Digital app;

- via the Ukrzaliznytsia chatbot;

- by card at the station;

- in cash at the controller during the journey.

Most interstate trains arrive on the right bank at the central railway station. While Kyiv residents are relatively accustomed to their fastidious subway system, foreigners should plan their route in advance if they have to cross to the left bank. You can find the schedule of international flights to and from Ukraine here.

You can also take a taxi and go across the Paton Bridge or rent a scooter or bicycle.

Please note! Trolleybuses in Kyiv do not run during air raids!
