Ukraine has improved the rules for admitting foreigners to the Armed Forces: what has changed?
Inhaltsübersicht
Foreigners wishing to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine should familiarise themselves with the new rules of recruitment to the Ukrainian army. Details are in this article
The Ukrainian parliament has amended the law on military service by foreigners and stateless persons. Thus, MPs have improved the existing rules. Here's how this will affect foreigners willing to defend Ukraine.
What changes have been made?
According to the adopted draft law, foreigners can now apply to the Recruitment Centre, administrative service centres, employment centres, TCCs at their place of residence or directly to the military unit where they wish to serve under contract.
In addition, the Recruitment Centres, after reviewing the applications of foreigners, will conduct a special check on
- the legality of a person's stay in Ukraine;
- facts of bringing to administrative or criminal liability;
- signs of links to the intelligence and subversive activities of foreign states against Ukraine.
In addition, foreigners who have expressed their willingness to serve under a contract must undergo a polygraph examination. Unwillingness to take a polygraph will be grounds for refusal to be recruited.
In addition, from now on, foreign citizens can be recruited on a contract basis for officer positions.

How much does the Armed Forces pay?
Unlike employees, military personnel do not receive a salary, but rather a financial allowance, which is not considered a salary.
The amount of financial support depends on:
- position
- military rank;
- duration, intensity and conditions of military service;
- qualifications.
Foreigners who sign the contract will receive the same salaries as Ukrainian military personnel. Currently, the salary of military personnel is at least 20 thousand hryvnias (about $500), and soldiers can also receive additional payments (30, 50, 100 thousand hryvnias).
