Inhaltsübersicht
Many Ukrainians are eager to return home. In particular, foreign nationals also continue to show interest in Ukraine and plan their visit. Here are the main restrictions to consider when traveling to Ukraine in May
A record number of people entering Ukraine are being recorded at the Ukrainian borders. Ukrainians are traveling to visit relatives, and the number of foreign travelers has also increased. Earlier, we talked about the rules of entry to Ukraine for foreigners and how Ukrainians can avoid losing protection in Europe by temporarily returning to Ukraine. Read more here.
Today, we will talk about the main restrictions that should be taken into account when traveling to Ukraine.
• Martial law in Ukraine: rules and regulations
Ukraine has been under martial law since February 24, 2022. The President of Ukraine signed the last extension of the special status on February 11, 2023. According to the law, the martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine will last for 90 days from February 19, 2023, i.e. until May 20, 2023. However, it is likely that this restriction will not be lifted after May 20.
The martial law conditions force guests and citizens to follow a number of rules:
- Always carry your documents with you.
- It is strictly forbidden to pick up suspicious objects.
- Officials have the right to check documents, conduct a cursory inspection of a person and a car if necessary.
- It is strictly forbidden to take photos and videos at checkpoints, near military units, medical facilities, administrative buildings and other strategic objects.
- Checkpoints are mobile checkpoints that are set up at the entrance to and exit from regions, districts, cities, and villages. - Checkpoints check documents and inspect cars. Military or police officers may ask you several questions about your route and purpose of travel. Read more about the rules of behavior at checkpoints here.
• Curfews
Another restriction that applies throughout Ukraine. A curfew is a time introduced to maintain law and order. Usually, curfews last from 23:00 until 05:00 the next day, and during this period, you cannot be outside and in public places. This restriction also applies to holidays. The duration may vary from region to region. For example, Kyiv recently reduced the duration of the curfew.
• Quarantine restrictions in connection with the COVID-19 epidemic
Quarantine restrictions continue to apply in Ukraine due to the COVID-19 epidemic. According to the Government's resolution, the quarantine will last until April 30, 2023. However, there is a high probability that the quarantine will be extended.
A mask regime is recommended throughout Ukraine. The Ministry of Health also advises to avoid large crowds. COVID certificates are not required when visiting accommodation, catering, cultural institutions, public events or traveling by public transport. The need to provide COVID documents for traveling between regions of Ukraine has also been canceled.
Stricter quarantine restrictions are in place for those entering Ukraine:
- Citizens of Ukraine and permanent residence permit holders have the right to enter freely without providing certificates, certificates or quarantine.
- Citizens of other countries and holders of temporary residence permits are still required to provide an insurance policy covering coronavirus treatment, as well as one of the following documents: a certificate of vaccination or recovery or a negative PCR test.
• List of documents required to enter Ukraine
When crossing the border, Ukrainian citizens must provide a valid foreign passport or an identity card to return to Ukraine.
To cross the border of Ukraine, a foreigner must have: a valid passport, a visa (for citizens of countries with visa requirements), a COVID-19 vaccination document or a PCR test, confirmation of the purpose of the trip - you must provide documents that indicate the reason for your trip to Ukraine: study documents, job invitations, proof of family ties, travel reservations and a return ticket, etc.
