General rules of visa-free travel

Most countries require a travel document (passport) valid for at least 3-6 months from the moment of crossing the border for entry.

Visa-free entry to Schengen countries is possible only with a biometric passport. Holders of old-style passports need a visa or a residence permit in one of the EU countries.

In cases where the visa is issued upon arrival, 1-2 color passport photos of the traveler may be required.

When passing through border control, service employees have the right to ask for documents confirming the purpose of arrival, return tickets and the availability of sufficient funds for the trip.

In some countries, an entry or exit fee may be imposed.

Each country independently determines how many days foreigners can stay on its territory without a visa.

When traveling under the visa-free rules, it is forbidden to exceed the number of days allowed for a stay in the country.

Ukrainians can visit countries only for tourist purposes, personal visits, etc. Even short-term employment as part of a visa-free trip is strictly prohibited.

What documents are required for visa-free travel?

The list of documents may differ depending on the country to which the tourist is going, but in most countries the package of documents looks like this:

• passport;

• travel insurance;

• confirmation of financial support, some countries may even require a bank statement;

• return ticket (if the tourist does not travel by own transport);

• confirmation of housing availability (booked room or official invitation).

What documents does a child need for a visa-free trip?

• Passport

The main document for crossing the border with a minor child is a foreign passport. Every child must have their own personal foreign passport, regardless of age.

A biometric passport can be issued for a child of any age. Until the age of 12, fingerprints are not taken from a child, but a photo of the child will be recorded on the chip, this information will be enough to consider such a passport as biometric.

A passport is issued to children under 14 years of age for 4 years, after 16 years for 10 years.

• Accompaniment of both parents or notarized consent of one or both parents for the child to travel abroad (depending on who accompanies the child during the trip).

• Justification of the purpose of the trip: additional financial support for the child, a return ticket, confirmation of the availability of a place to stay.

• Health insurance policy.
