The commander of the Tavria operational and strategic grouping, Oleksandr Tarnavsky, and the General Staff of Ukraine confirmed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had broken through the russian defense line near the village of Verbove in Zaporizhzhia region and were continuing to advance.

In addition, on the eve of the statements by Ukrainian representatives, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were able to break through the russian defense on a wide section of the front, allowing not only infantry but also armored vehicles to advance.

However, the fighting on this section of the front was particularly fierce, with the russians biting into every piece of land and firing phosphorus munitions at Ukrainian positions to force them to leave the de-occupied territory.

What is the importance of the breakthrough near the village of Verbove?

Despite the West's dissatisfaction with the "slow counteroffensive," Ukrainian tactics have proven effective. And now, even the constant redeployment of russian troops to the areas where the Ukrainian army is advancing does not help to seize the initiative or at least slow down the advance.

The first line of defense of the russian federation has been broken through, and the village of Verbove is actually the second line of defense, which means that when the Ukrainian Armed Forces enter the village and gain a foothold on the lines they have reached, it will mean a new stage of the offensive.

russia's second line of defense is less fortified than the first. The fact that the Ukrainian armed forces were able to expand the bridgehead and began using heavy equipment may also contribute to their success, while it is much more difficult to defend and fight with the equipment that has broken through in unprepared positions. Therefore, it is likely that Ukrainian soldiers will be able to break the russian defense and force them to retreat. If the occupiers still have enough manpower and equipment to hold back the offensive, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' advance will be slower, as they will be forced to use the same tactics and act in small groups. At the same time, according to the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, the russians have already abandoned their last reserves to deter the Ukrainian offensive.

The second important point is that Verbove opens the way through to Ocherevatne, which in turn will allow to start breaking through the corridor to Tokmak from the east. The Tokmak-Pologi highway is an important logistics route for russia, and by cutting it, Ukraine will significantly improve its position on the battlefield. After all, by pulling up artillery, Ukrainian soldiers will be able to hit targets even in Tokmak itself.

Defense or counterattack: what do they say in russia?

russian channels report only on "successful repulsion of the counteroffensive" and "significant losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces." Some sources of information report that the russians are allegedly still fighting for Robotyne, which was completely liberated from the occupiers in mid-August.

The russian media do not mention the defeats west of Verbove and the successful fulfillment of the tasks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the support of heavy equipment, which indicate significant progress in the offensive.

For some reason, they also do not mention that all attempts to regain lost ground near Andriivka in Donetsk region, which is called the "key to Bakhmut," have failed and resulted in losses in manpower and equipment. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to conduct assault operations south of Bakhmut.

We remember the price of liberation of every meter of Ukrainian land and believe in the titans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine!

We remind you! The Ukrainian Armed Forces have launched new successful strikes in Crimea, where russian troops are based. Read more about the results of the attacks on the russian rear and what to expect in the near future in our previous article.
