Peace summit in Switzerland: when the meeting will take place and what they want to achieve at it
The war in Ukraine has been going on for more than two years. Ukraine and its allies are striving to put an end to Russian aggression. To this end, the parties are organising a major peace summit in Switzerland this summer. Find out how many countries will attend and what they want to decide at the first meeting
For quite some time now, the Ukrainian authorities have been talking about the upcoming peace summit to be held in Switzerland this summer. From 80 to 100 countries will gather there to discuss a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg, Switzerland wants to hold a Global Peace Summit on the war in Ukraine in mid-June. According to sources, it could be held on 16-17 June.
The publication writes that it is not clear yet how many leaders will attend this meeting. A key issue of disagreement has been China's participation. Although earlier Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that about 100 countries would take part in the summit.
For Switzerland, China's participation will be crucial as Bern wants to make the initiative credible. Ukraine's allies see China's presence as important to the success of the meeting, given the influence Beijing has on moscow.
At the same time, russia is not expected at the summit yet. Earlier, Zelensky hinted that russia would not be invited to the global "peace summit". Later, the head of the Presidential Office, Andrei Yermak, confirmed that more than 160 countries would be invited to the summit - russia is not expected to be invited at this stage. However, the leaders may come to this in the future.

What is the importance of the peace summit in Switzerland and what do they want to decide there?
As you know, back in 2020, the Ukrainian president proposed his "formula for peace" in Ukraine. It consists of guarantees of radiation, nuclear, food and energy security, as well as the withdrawal of rf troops from the occupied territories.
The "peace formula" consists of 10 points that should stop russian aggression and ensure Ukraine's security
1. Radiation and nuclear security.
2. Food security.
3. energy security.
4. Release of all prisoners and deportees.
5. Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of territorial integrity and world order.
6. Withdrawal of russian troops and cessation of hostilities.
7. Justice (creation of a special tribunal against russia).
8. The need for immediate protection of nature.
9. Prevention of escalation.
10. Fixing the end of the war - signing the document.
President Zelensky himself stated that this summit will be inaugural. In simple words, introductory. However, it is very important because the Ukrainian side will be able to see partners and build a map of further steps to end the war.
The President believes that more countries "will be able to try to at least force russia to a just peace".
We remind you! The former US President has repeatedly emphasised that he can end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours, but how exactly he plans to do this has not commented to the public. What details of Trump's "peace plan" revealed by journalists of The Washington Post, read here.
