What does travel insurance cover for traveling abroad and what is the price?

Travel insurance coverage is broader than just covering medical expenses outside your home country. Thus, a travel insurance policy covers

– diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 (as prescribed by a doctor and if indicated)

– emergency outpatient and inpatient care (in a medical facility or by a licensed doctor)

– expenses for calling an ambulance and providing ambulance services;

– emergency obstetric care (up to the 28th week of pregnancy);

– expenses for emergency surgeries (including medicines, bandages, etc.);

– expenses for evacuation of children under the age of 14 in case of accident or sudden illness of an adult insured person who was abroad with a child;

– medical transportation and repatriation of the body.

The cost of travel insurance will depend on the chosen validity period. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can take out an insurance policy at a favorable price: the cost of insurance for 1 day for an adult will cost 2.15 EUR (~91 UAH).

What does health insurance cover for traveling abroad and what is the price?

Visit Ukraine portal offers two types of health insurance: standard health insurance and health insurance+. They differ in the limits and scope of coverage.

Standard (basic) medical insurance for traveling abroad covers all the same risks as travel insurance, as well as accident coverage in the amount of EUR 1000 and additionally covers:

– emergency dental care (150 EUR);

– transportation costs by vehicle to the nearest medical facility;

– burial expenses abroad or repatriation of the body to Ukraine (within the limit of the sum insured for accidents).

Such insurance will cost 3.13 EUR/day (~132 UAH). You can apply for medical insurance for the required period by following this link.

Extended health insurance+ has three packages: SILVER, GOLD and PLATINUM. They differ in reimbursement limits and coverage.

It should be noted that this insurance provides for the possibility of issuing/extending the policy in cases when a person is abroad.

In addition, depending on the chosen package, it provides for:

– reimbursement of the cost of staying in a high-comfort waiting area in case of flight cancellation or flight delay of more than 4 hours (up to EUR 300)

– reimbursement of expenses for elimination of a sudden technical error, damage as a result of an accident or storage of the insured person's car in the parking lot (up to EUR 200)

– reimbursement of expenses for vaccinations and inoculations (for a total amount of up to EUR 100);

– indemnification of losses in case of technical problems or malfunctions of water transport (e.g. cruise ship) on which the trip was booked (up to EUR 1000)

– payment of legal fees for medical services or return to the country of permanent residence (300 EUR);

– reimbursement of expenses for the preparation of documents for the person's return to the country of permanent residence (110 EUR) and other risks.

The cost of such insurance will depend on its validity period and the chosen package:

– SILVER – 1.5 EUR/day (~62 UAH);

– GOLD – 2.5 EUR/day (~105 UAH);

– PLATINUM – 4 EUR/day (~169 UAH).
