This summer's heatwave in Ukraine is almost a record in recent years. For more than a week now, the temperature has been reaching 35-40 degrees Celsius across the country. Due to the high temperature, drivers may face car malfunctions, overheating, etc. We will tell you about the important nuances that drivers need to know to protect their cars from the heat in this article.

How to protect your car from the heat?

We advise you to take car care in the heat seriously, as it will help protect your car from malfunctions, saving you time and money.

Here are the main tips for drivers on car care in the heat:

● If possible, park your car in the shade. In the absence of such parking spaces, protect the dashboard and car body with a special reflective curtain and a light-coloured cover;

● check the health of the cooling system. The driver's attention to this nuance and the optimal level of antifreeze in the engine will prevent it from boiling over and causing expensive repairs;

● ensure that the air conditioner is in good working order and that the freon level is optimal;

● if the car has been exposed to sunlight for a long time, do not rush to switch on the air conditioning immediately. Ventilate the car first;

● consider window tinting and special films for windows that reflect the sun's rays;

● remember that not only the roads but also the tyres heat up under the scorching sun. This can lead to serious problems, as the hot air inside the wheels can simply tear the heated rubber in contact with the melting asphalt. It is important to keep your tyres under-inflated and checked regularly.

Following these simple rules will help protect your car from overheating and reduce the likelihood of unpleasant consequences of the heat.

All drivers in Ukraine should remember that an insurance policy is mandatory for every vehicle in the country.

Motor third party liability insurance (MTPL) is a compulsory vehicle insurance in Ukraine that guarantees compensation for damages in the event of an accident. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can buy a motor third party liability insurance policy from a licensed insurer for reliable protection on Ukrainian roads. Packages with a deductible of UAH 3200, UAH 1600 and UAH 0 are available.

However, if you plan to drive a car with Ukrainian registration abroad, a Green Card insurance policy is mandatory. The Green Card is a mandatory international motor third party liability insurance policy that covers the costs of compensation for damage caused to life, health and property of third parties as a result of an accident in the territory of the member states of the international Green Card agreement.

On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can take out a Green Card policy from a licensed insurer. Packages are available for different periods from 15 days to 1 year for cars and trucks, trailers and semi-trailers for trucks, as well as motorcycles and scooters.

Just a reminder. Recently, it became known that the National Police has introduced electronic protocols for documenting traffic violations by drivers. Read more about the innovation and how it will improve the protocol drawing up procedure here.
