Ukrainians planning a trip to Slovakia by car should study the border crossing procedure and general rules for drivers in the new country in detail. We will tell you about all the nuances of travelling from Ukraine to Slovakia by car, checkpoints, routes, necessary documents and everything a driver needs to know below.

What documents are needed to enter Slovakia by car?

Crossing the border by a car with Ukrainian registration is carried out on the basis of the following documents:

● international passport;

● driver's licence;
● vehicle registration documents;
● international insurance policy Green Card.

Important! Only vehicles with Ukrainian state licence plates can successfully cross the border with Slovakia. Individual number plates are valid only on the territory of Ukraine.

Green Card: travelling to Slovakia

Remember that all vehicles with Ukrainian registration must have a valid Green Card insurance policy when entering Slovakia.

The Green Card is a mandatory international motor third party liability insurance policy that covers the costs of compensation for damage to life, health and property of third parties caused by road accidents in Slovakia and other member states of the international Green Card agreement. Failure to have this insurance is subject to fines.

It is also worth remembering that in the event of an accident abroad, a driver who does not have a Green Card for a car risks spending tens of thousands of euros on car repairs and compensation for damages.

It is better to buy insurance online, as it is quick and easy. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can take out a Green Card policy from a licensed insurer. Packages are available for different periods from 15 days to 1 year for cars and trucks, trailers and semi-trailers for trucks, as well as motorcycles and scooters. It should be borne in mind that the insurance starts the next day after registration, so we advise you to read the terms and conditions in advance and purchase a Green Card.
