Poland wants to simplify the procedure for obtaining a driving licence for foreign citizens, including Ukrainians. Potentially, such persons will be able to obtain the document much faster.

According to inPoland, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland has already submitted draft amendments to the Road Traffic Act.

It should be noted that currently, foreigners, including Ukrainians, can apply for a Polish driving licence if they have been legally residing in Poland for 185 days.

What do they want to change?

According to EU law, foreign nationals can obtain a driving licence even if they stay in the EU for less than 185 days.

Thus, Poland wants to follow the European rules. When the decision is made, foreigners in Poland will be able to pick up a ready-made driving licence when their stay in Poland reaches 185 days.

There is no longer a need to wait 185 days to submit the required list of documents to obtain a Polish driving licence. This makes the process much faster.

The changes will tentatively come into force in 2025.

Also, do not forget that foreign citizens entering Poland by car must have an insurance policy, which is mandatory in this country. Therefore, we advise you to apply for a Green Card in advance, which provides standard coverage for cars with foreign registration.

We remind you! Poland continues to help Ukrainians who were forced to leave Ukraine because of the war. We talked about moving to Poland in 2024, entry rules, conditions of legal stay and other important nuances you need to know.
