Many foreigners may not understand the difference between standard health insurance coverage and insurance covering war risks. The latter subtype appeared on the market only in 2023 as a response to regular shelling and, consequently, danger - it is more expensive than a regular policy. Standard medical insurance covers expenses resulting from illness or accident, while insurance with war risk coverage has medical coverage and additionally covers accidents that may occur as a result of active hostilities, passive war risks or terrorist acts. All types of insurance are available for purchase on the Visit Ukraine portal - you can buy a policy online with a minimum package of documents.

War risk insurance has classic health insurance coverage, including emergency care, outpatient treatment, hospitalisation and repatriation of the insured person (or his/her body in case of death) from the place of stay to the place of permanent residence and additionally guarantees financial compensation in case of an accident as a result of hostilities, passive war risks, or terrorist acts. It can be issued for a period of 3 to 180 days.
