ORDER

Behind every peaceful night in the rear and every successful mission in the sky is the work of individuals. Patrol officers ensure safety, order and security on a daily basis, while navigators of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are responsible for the accuracy of routes, navigation and coordination of actions in the air. These are two different military specialties and two separate professional holidays that are celebrated on the same day, but they are united by a common responsibility - saving lives and ensuring the effectiveness of defense. On this day, it is important to talk not only about the units, but first and foremost about the people who stand behind the country's security.

In our previous article, we described how Ukraine is turning its resources into an instrument of revival and international recognition.

Patrol service: what the troops do

Patrol and post service are units responsible for order, safety and security in certain areas and facilities, in particular in the rear and near important infrastructure points. Their work is rarely in the news, but it creates a sense of stability and security for military units and civilians alike. Representatives of this service are the first to respond to threats, control access control, protect military facilities, and help maintain law and order in high-risk areas.

The main tasks of the patrol and post service include:

1. Protecting strategic facilities, warehouses, base points and important infrastructure;

2. Patrolling designated areas and maintaining order;

3. Checking access to sensitive facilities and controlling access control;

4. Responding to suspicious situations and security threats;

5. Interacting with other departments to respond quickly to incidents.

Although this service is not always directly on the front line, its role is no less critical. It is thanks to the daily presence of patrol and post units that the rear remains protected, and military units can focus on combat missions without being distracted by internal security issues.

In our previous article, we talked about the history of the approval of the National Flag of Ukraine.

Air Navigation Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: navigation, safety and accuracy in the sky

The Air Navigation Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is responsible for ensuring that every flight is as accurate, safe and efficient as possible. It is the navigators who plan routes, calculate flight parameters, take into account weather conditions, terrain and possible threats. In wartime, these decisions are often made in a limited time and with increased risks, and any mistake can cost the crew their lives.

The work of navigators is not limited to navigation in the classical sense. They participate in the preparation of combat and transport missions, help crews navigate in difficult conditions, ensure the accuracy of missions and return aircraft to base. Navigators work in close cooperation with pilots, engineers and commanders to form a joint flight safety system.

The key tasks of the navigation service include:

1. Planning flight routes taking into account the situation and threats;

2. Navigation support for combat and transportation missions;

3. Analysis of weather conditions and selection of optimal routes;

4. Control of the accuracy of tasks during flights;

5. Participation in crew training and improving the safety of aviation operations.

Navigators are rarely in the spotlight, but it is their work that allows aviation to operate smoothly and efficiently. These are the specialists who “keep the course” in the most difficult conditions and help Ukrainian aviation perform tasks with maximum accuracy and minimum risks.

History and emergence of professional holidays

The Day of Patrol and Post Service Workers and the Day of the Air Navigation Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are two separate professional holidays that are celebrated on the same day. Each of them has its own history and is associated with the development of the respective areas of service in the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The introduction of such dates is not just a formality, but a way to recognize the contribution of military professionals whose work often goes “behind the scenes” but has a direct impact on the country's security.

The patrol and post service as an element of the security system was formed along with the development of military garrisons, protection of strategic facilities and internal order in units. Over time, its functions expanded from basic security to comprehensive security in high-risk areas, especially under martial law. The emergence of a separate professional day was a recognition that effective defense is impossible without a reliable rear.

The navigational service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has its own professional tradition associated with the development of military aviation in Ukraine. With the growing complexity of aviation operations, the role of navigators has become increasingly important: from basic navigation to comprehensive flight planning in combat conditions. A special day for this service emphasizes the importance of people who are responsible for the accuracy, safety and coordination of actions in the air, where the cost of a mistake is particularly high.

In the context of a full-scale war, the importance of both services has increased significantly. Their professional days are not just an occasion for congratulations, but a reminder of their daily responsibility, endurance and contribution to the common cause of protecting Ukraine.

How do they celebrate these days in Ukraine?

In times of war, professional military holidays in Ukraine have acquired a special meaning. The Day of Patrol and Post Service Workers and the Day of Air Navigation Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not loud celebrations, but rather a day of respect and gratitude to those who continue to do their job under constant threat. For many servicemen, it is an ordinary working day, but with warmer words from their commanders, colleagues and loved ones.

Traditionally, on this day, official greetings from the command are delivered, awards and gratitude for conscientious service are presented, and the military who have shown professionalism and responsibility in difficult conditions are honored. Units may hold symbolic commemoration ceremonies, minutes of silence for their fallen comrades, and informal meetings with colleagues.

For civilians, this day becomes an opportunity to express support for the military: they post words of gratitude on social media, share stories about the work of various units, and join volunteer initiatives. Such simple gestures are no less important than official congratulations, as they remind the military that their work is seen, appreciated, and respected.

Why is it important for every Ukrainian to know about these services?

The war changes the perception of many things, including how the state's security system works. It is easy to overlook the daily work of the units that ensure order in the rear and safety in the sky behind the news from the front, reports and loud headlines. However, it is their stable and well-coordinated work that determines whether other military units can effectively perform their tasks.

Knowledge about the patrol and air navigation service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine helps to better understand that the defense of the country is not only about fighting on the front line. It is also about protection, control, planning, navigation, coordination and thousands of decisions that are made every day for the safety of people. Realizing this builds respect for the various military professions and destroys the simplistic view of how the army actually works.

When society sees and appreciates the contribution of each service, trust between the military and civilians grows, and a sense of shared responsibility for the country is strengthened. It is these seemingly “invisible” elements that make up the resilience of the state in the most difficult times.

How can everyone support the defenders?

Supporting the military does not always mean direct participation in combat. Even small actions on the part of civilians are important because they create a sense of unity and show that service and sacrifice do not go unnoticed. For many soldiers, words of support and public attention are an important moral resource that helps them to keep going in difficult conditions.

There are many ways to support our defenders, depending on the capabilities and resources of each person. It can be financial assistance to proven volunteer initiatives, participation in local meetings for units, dissemination of reliable information, or simple human “thank you” in everyday life. It is important that such support is sincere, systematic and responsible.

Simple ways to support the military:

- Join proven volunteer initiatives and collections;

- Help with necessary items for units in your region;

- Sharing true information and stories about the military;

- Supporting the families of the defenders in their everyday life;

- Thanking the military for their service with words and actions.

Not all support is measured by donations or volunteer trips. For many Ukrainians, it is important to be able to express their position publicly and on a daily basis through symbols that remind them of the values for which the country is fighting. Patriotic items, accessories, or clothing become a sign of solidarity with the military and a show of respect for their service.
