MOTOR TPL INSURANCE

Citizens of Ukraine must have an MTPL policy, according to Article 21 of the Law “On Compulsory Insurance of Civil Liability of Owners of Land Vehicles.”

To apply for Motor TPL Insurance online, you must have a Ukrainian passport or driver's license, a technical passport, an identification number, and a report of the technical condition of the car if the vehicle is subject to mandatory technical inspection.

The policy is valid for 1 year. The MTPL insurance contract comes into force from the date specified in the document as the beginning of the validity of this Agreement.

The price of a MTPL policy is formed taking into account the following factors:

• Type of vehicle: for example, insurance for a motorcycle will cost less than for a car.
  
• Engine size: the larger the engine size, the higher the cost of insurance.
  
• Place of registration of the vehicle: prices differ depending on the region.
  
• Availability of benefits for the owner: combatants, disabled people of group II, liquidators of the Chernobyl accident of categories I and II, pensioners can get a 50% discount on CTP insurance.
  
• Deductible amount: the choice of deductible (the amount you pay yourself in the event of an accident) affects the cost of the policy - a higher deductible reduces the price of insurance.

You can take out an MTPL (compulsory motor third party liability insurance) policy for the following types of vehicles and equipment:

1. Passenger cars with an engine size

• up to 1600 cm³ (inclusive);
  
• from 1601 to 2000 cm³ (inclusive);
  
• from 2001 to 3000 cm³ (inclusive);
  
• over 3001 cm³.
  

2. Electric vehicles.

3. Motorcycles and motor scooters with an engine size

• up to 300 cm³ (inclusive);
  
• over 300 cm³.
  

4. Trucks with a carrying capacity:

• up to 2 tons (inclusive);
  
• over 2 tons.
  

5. Buses with the number of seats:

• up to 20 seats (inclusive);
  
• more than 20 seats.
  

6. Trailers and semi-trailers for cars and trucks.

An MTPL insurance policy covers losses caused to third parties in the event of an accident where you are the culprit.

1. Damage to property:

Liability limit: up to UAH 160,000 per victim.

The following expenses are covered:

• Repair or reimbursement of the cost of the victim's damaged vehicle.
  
• Restoration of damaged roads and road structures.
  
• Compensation for destroyed or damaged property of the victim.
  
• Costs of rescue operations for victims after an accident.
  
• Evacuation of the vehicle from the accident scene.

2. Damage caused to the life and health of the victims:

Limit of liability: up to UAH 320,000 per victim.

The following expenses are covered:

• Medical treatment of the victim.
  
• Compensation for temporary disability.
  
• Payments in case of permanent disability.
  
• Financial assistance in the event of the victim's death.

• Financial protection: the policy covers damages to victims of an accident where you are at fault, reducing your personal expenses.
• Compliance with the law: MTPL insurance is mandatory, and its absence is fraught with fines.
  
• Peace of mind and confidence: you are covered in case of an unforeseen situation on the road.

Coverage area: MTPL is valid only in Ukraine, while the Green Card covers insurance abroad.

• Limits of liability: MTPL is governed by Ukrainian law, while Green Card is governed by the laws of the country where the accident occurred.
  
• Validity period: MTPL is usually issued for a year, while the Green Card is issued for the period of travel (from 15 days to a year).
  

Important: MTPL and Green Card do not replace each other. To travel outside of Ukraine, you must have a valid Green Card policy, even if you have MTPL insurance.

The sum insured is the amount of money that the insurer is obliged to pay in the event of an insured event.

Deductible is an amount of money that is not reimbursed by the insurer under the insurance contract.

An electronic insurance policy does not need to be printed out. It is enough for the driver to save the policy on his phone or tablet to always have access to the document.
