Canada offers financial assistance to refugees from Ukraine: who can count and how much
Ukrainians who have come to Canada since the beginning of the war can receive financial assistance. Learn more about the amount offered by the state and how to receive payments
Ukrainians who found refuge in Canada can receive financial assistance. Who can apply for it and what is the payment amount, read further.
Who can receive financial assistance?
Only those Ukrainians who came to Canada on the basis of a Canadian-Ukrainian Emergency Travel Authorization (CUAET) can receive assistance. This benefit comes only once and is tax-free. The Canadian government allocates these funds so that refugees can settle in the country immediately after their arrival.
What to do to receive payment?
It is necessary to submit an application, on the basis of which you will be awarded a payment. In order to submit it, you should:
• Be in Canada;
• Arrive within CUAET and have a corresponding mark in the temporary resident status document;
• Open an account with a Canadian bank, because the payment is calculated by direct deposit.
If you do not have a special mark, apply for an extension of stay under CUAET - Canadian-Ukrainian emergency travel permit. This must be done before submitting a request for financial assistance.
You can apply for payment online here. After completing all the steps, you will see a confirmation of the successful completion of the questionnaire. Be sure to write down the number of this confirmation.
Getting financial aid in Canada for children
Ukrainian minors who are in Canada without adults must submit additional documents:
• A letter signed by the parents or legal guardian, which includes the address and telephone number of one of the parents and the adult who will supervise the child in Canada;
• A copy of the document on the status of a temporary resident [IMM 1442] with a note on the stay within the CUAET.
What amount will Ukrainians receive?
Adult Ukrainians will be paid 3,000 Canadian dollars, children will be charged 1,500 Canadian dollars. Funds will be deposited into your bank account via direct deposit. One of the parents or a legal guardian will receive the payment for the child.
We would like to remind you that Ukrainians who moved to Canada due to the war in Ukraine within CUAET have permission to work officially. Read how and where to look for a job in Canada at the link.
