Legends and myths about dragons from around the world
First of all, it's worth noting that different cultures around the world have very different ideas about dragons and views on symbolism. For example, in China and Japan, this creature is associated with prosperity, fertility, and fortune; in European countries, especially in the Middle Ages, dragons were a symbol of fear, hatred, and chaos; and in Christian cultures, they are a symbol of death, darkness, and sin.
Associations with these animals also differ. For example, while in Slavic and English mythology, dragons were a symbol of fire, as exemplified by the Slavic Serpent Gorynych, in China, dragons were considered celestial, i.e. sacred creatures, and were always associated with the wind.
At the same time, almost all nations of the world have legends about dragons, but in some cultures they can fly and breathe fire, while in others they live in caves underground and guard treasures.
But regardless of whether this creature is considered sacred or deadly in a particular culture or religion, for all peoples of the world, a dragon is a large, strong, and powerful animal. And in the modern world, they have become one of the most popular mythical creatures that have gone far beyond legends and children's fairy tales.
