ORDER

A Green Card is an international car insurance policy for traveling abroad. Such insurance is mandatory for driving in countries that are members of the international Green Card system, most of which are EU member states.

How does the Green Card work and what does it cover?

The Green Card insurance policy shows that the vehicle is covered by compulsory third-party liability insurance and provides a guarantee, primarily for the foreigner's country of residence, that the insurer of the country of origin of the vehicle will compensate the victim in the event of an accident in accordance with the laws of the country where the accident occurred. In other words, the Green Card insurance certificate covers damage caused by the driver to third parties in a foreign country.

At the same time, if an accident occurs abroad, or the driver is simply stopped by the police during an inspection or other violation, and he or she does not have a Green Card, he or she will face a fine (up to EUR 1,000), and in some cases deportation from the country with a subsequent entry ban (depending on the circumstances and the country of residence).

Earlier, we also told you:

– how to get compensation after an accident abroad and where to apply;

– how to get compensation after an accident if the at-fault driver does not have a motor vehicle liability insurance policy.

What are the limits of liability or insurance coverage under the Green Card?

The sum insured under the Green Card is determined by the legislation of the country where the accident occurred and is divided into: personal injury coverage and coverage of material damage caused to third parties. In different countries, the amounts vary from several thousand to several million euros.

At the same time, there are countries that have no limits on payments for treatment in the event of an accident. This means that the victims will be fully compensated, and the culprit of the accident will not have to pay anything out of pocket. Such conditions apply in the following countries:

– Belgium;

– Great Britain;

– Israel;

– Ireland;

– Luxembourg;

– Norway;

– Tunisia;

– Finland;

– France.
