Motor Third Party Liability and Mini Casualty: what is the difference?

Motor Third Party Liability Insurance (MTPL) is compulsory motor insurance for all vehicles in Ukraine. Article 21 of the Law ‘On Compulsory Insurance of Civil Liability of Owners of Land Vehicles’ requires every driver to have an MTPL insurance policy. The absence of compulsory insurance results in administrative liability, namely fines.

What damages are covered by a third party liability insurance policy?

Motor third-party liability insurance provides for only one type of compensation: the insurance company of the culprit reimburses the injured party. However, it should be borne in mind that the amount of compensation in the event of an accident is limited: the insurer will pay the victim no more than UAH 160,000 for car repairs, or no more than UAH 320,000 if the driver's health was damaged. If this amount is not enough to compensate for the damage, the person responsible for the accident will have to cover the rest on their own.
